ASMATNESE CULTURE
Asmats' body is different with others who resides in the center mountain or other beaches. The men's height ranged between 1,67-1,72 meters and the women's ranged between 1,60-1,65 meters. Other body characteristics are their oval-shaped head (dolichocephalic), thin lips, long nose, and black skin. In general, the Asmats don't use much of their legs to travel far, thus their legs become smaller, yet, they every time row with standing position, thus their arms' and chests muscles seem so firm and strong. The women body looked thin and skinny, because the abundant amount of job they have to finish.
.:: VILLAGE PATTERN ::.
As mentioned above, aside from yeu, there is a family home, which is populated by one core family, which consists of a father, one or more wives, and their children. Every wife has her own kitchen, door, and stairs.
.:: OCCUPATION ::.
Only stone tools mark Asmat's long life span. Those stones themselves were traded goods, since it's difficult to find stones in their habitat. Iron tools were known just recently. With those stone tools they make houses, boats, mbis statues with carvings, which of all related with their belief.

Indonesian Independence Day marks the fact that on 17 August 1945, Sukarno, Indonesia's first president, proclaimed independence in Jakarta following the surrender of the Japanese.
In Palembang the capital of South Sumatra, the festivities involve a Bidar canoe race on the Musi River, which meanders through the city. The canoes are shaped to resemble animals or animal heads, each rowed by 40 costumed oarsmen.
Almost synonymous with Indonesia, Batik, the art of applying wax to cloth and then tie-dying into colourful and dramatic designs, is produced throughout the archipelago. Textiles are big business here, and the centre of this activity is Yogyakarta in Java. Other, less well-known craft forms include: ikat, a type of weaving using tie-dyed threads; songket, a silk cloth with gold or silver threads woven into it; and kris, artwork often decorated with jewels.

Languages
In the Minahasa area alone there are 8 indigenous languages spoken: Tonsea Tondano Tombulu Tontemboan and Tonsawang Bantik Ratahan and Ponosakan . The first five languages form a genetic group called proto-Minahasan . They are more closely related to each other and cover the greater part of Minahasa. It is therefore reasonable to assume that they all derive from a common parent language which was itself spoken in Minahasa.
The other three languages have their closest links with languages spoken outside Minahasa. Ponosakan is closely related to Mangondow , spoken in the Bolaang Mangondow Regency.

Indonesia- Land of Smiles
T he largest archipelago in the world, Indonesia consists of five main island; Java, Sumatra Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Irian Jaya and about 30 small archipelagoes, a total of more than 17,508 islands. Stretching 3,200 miles (5.120 km) from east to west, it straddles the equator between the Australian and Asian Continents.
With the fifth largest population in the world. Indonesians number 190 million and are basically of Malay and Polynesian stock comprising of 300 ethnic groups and subgroups having their own traditions. Early immigrants from the Indian subcontinent, China, the Arab peninsula and Persia have left their mark on culture and religion followed by influences of Portuguese, Spanish, English and Dutch traders and colonials.
The Indonesian constitution allows freedom of religion in a predominantly Moslem country and the state's "Unity in Diversity" motto is a symbol of the co-existence of the many cultures unified in on nation. These diverse cultures have given Indonesia a rich heritage of traditions and art resulting in festivities throughout the year in different parts of the country, which are also closely related to religion, particularly on the island of Bali.

Country Info Indonesia Introduction Indonesia General Data Indonesia Maps Indonesia Culture ... Indonesia Time and Date Indonesia Culture Back to Top Indonesia exhibits a rich diversity of cultural forms that range from those of the old Malay, which are preserved mainly in the remote interiors of Sumatra and Borneo, through the traditional Javanese and Balinese forms, which are heavily influenced by the Hindu stories of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, to the modern culture that has evolved from this complex heritage. The American art historian Claire Holt, in Art in Indonesia (1967), has divided cultural life into three overlapping spheres: “the Heritage,” which includes the statues and monuments of the ancient cultures; “Living Tradition,” which covers the traditional theatre using shadow plays Javanese monuments, the Saivite temple of the Diyeng (Dieng) Plateau, date to the early 8th century. The Sailendra dynasty, which ruled Java and Sumatra (8th–9th century), built the great Mahayana Buddhist monuments, including that of Borobudur, around AD 800. Late in the 9th century the kings of Mataram built the Hindu monuments around Prambanan. Lara Yonggrang (Lara Jonggrang) Temple, commonly called Prambanan Temple, is the best-preserved of a series of Hindu temple complexes in the region. It consists of six main temples; three large ones along the west, dedicated to Siva, Vishnu, and Brahma, contain fine statues. Of the three smaller temples along the east, the middle one contains a statue of Nandi, the bull of Siva. The main temples are heavily ornamented with stone carvings of the gods and other heavenly beings, and there is a series of relief panels depicting the Ramayana story.

http://www.indoneske-velvyslanectvi.cz/culture.htm
CULTURE  Art forms in Indonesia are not only derived from folklore, as in many other parts of the world. Many were developed in the courts of former kingdoms, as in Bali, where they are integral elements of religious ceremonies. The famous dance dramas of Java and Bali are derived from Hindu mythology and often feature fragments from the Ramayana and Mahabrata Hindu epics.
  • Languages and Dialects
There are about 583 languages spoken by as many distinct ethnic groups across the archipelago. There are five main language groups on Sumatra alone, six on Sulawesi and three on Java. One small island, Alor in Nusa Tenggara has seven different language groups! The Balinese speak their own language, and many local languages are further divided by special forms for addressing someone of inferior, equal or superior social status. Adding even more spice to this linguistic stew, all these language are also spoken in a number of different local dialects. Bahasa Indonesia, the official national language, is akin to Malay, and is written in Roman script and based on European orthography. English is the most widely used foreign language for business and travel alike. Wherever you go you will be greeted by the familiar "Hello Mr.!” (Regardless of your sex), and even if your travels take you 'off the beaten track' it is not uncommon to find Indonesians with a decent command of the English language. In some of the bigger cities and tourist destinations, Dutch is still used, and the influence of Dutch in Bahasa Indonesia is quite obvious. French is increasing its popularity at the better hotels and restaurant.
