The Millennium
Revelation 20:1-10
Tonight we have come to the seventh and final dispensation. The millennium or kingdom age which refers to the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ on this earth. At the close of the tribulation Jesus Christ literally will return to this earth. Satan will be bound in the bottomless pit for a thousand years. And Jesus will then establish His kingdom and will begin His 1000 year rule. It is necessary for Christ to establish the kingdom in order to fulfill all of the covenant promises God made to Israel. Tonight we want to consider what the Millennium will be like. I. The Government.
    A. It will be a Theocracy
      1. That means that God will rule the people. 2. No more democracy, socialism, nor communism.
    B. Jesus Christ will be the King.
      1. "...For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. And He shall judge among the nations..." cf. Is. 2:3b-4a 2. "And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people..." cf Dan. 2:44 3. In the announcement to Mary in Luke 1:32-33 we read, "...And the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end."

Middle Eastern Paradox #2785: The collapse of Ariel Sharon's national unity government is a sign of stability in Israeli politics. Sharon's Defense Minister Benjamin ben-Eliezer took his Labor Party out of the unity government on Wednesday in a move that may precipitate fresh elections. Sharon faces a no-confidence vote in the Knesset next Monday, which will determine whether he'll manage to attract sufficient support to continue governing with a narrower coalition or be forced to call new elections for early next year. The immediate issue precipitating the split was the failure of the two sides to agree on Labor Party demands that Sharon amend his budget to reallocate funds away from the West Bank and Gaza settlements that form a central part of the dispute between Israel and the Palestinians and instead spend the money on sectors of Israeli society left vulnerable by the country's shrinking economy. But there's nothing new about either the government's support for the settlements or the economic woes of millions of Israelis, which has Israeli analysts opining that ben-Eliezer is simply reaching for a wedge issue to distinguish his party from Sharon's Likud ahead of elections scheduled for November 2003.

VIPAC , in existence since 1997, is a group of thousands of people from all across America and all around the worldof many races and religionswho have joined together for one purpose: to petition the US government for a policy that is more supportive of Israel's security, historical and Biblical claims in Judea, Samaria, Gaza, and the Golan Heights. HOW DOES VIPAC WORK?
Each week VIPAC sends a sample e-mail to each of its members. Typically this e-mail encourages greater American support for Israel's right to secure borders in its historical and Biblical homeland. Our members can copy, address and edit this sample letter to reflect their own individual viewpoints. They can then put their name at the bottom after "Sincerely," and send it off as their own to the White House. Our program has grown substantially and has been acknowledged several times by Arutz-7 , a radio station and daily news report in Israel that is heard and sent via the Internet throughout the world.

Ariel Sharon's government may be collapsing, but his party's grip on power is stronger than ever
By TONY KARON Middle Eastern Paradox #2785: The collapse of Ariel Sharon's national unity government is a sign of stability in Israeli politics. Ben-Eliezer also faces a primary challenge from legislator Haim Ramon and Haifa mayor Amram Mitzna, and he currently trails both men in the polls. Some Israeli analysts speculate that his sudden choice of the path of confrontation with Sharon is motivated in no small part by his desire to see off challengers within his own party. But it remains to be seen whether either Mitznah or Ramon is considered a credible candidate by the party's base or were simply a protest-vote choice of activists looking to get ben-Eliezer out of the government. Labor's decision also inserts curious question mark after the name of foreign minister Shimon Peres. There is considerable speculation in Israel that the former prime minister might choose to quit his own party and remain at Sharon's side as an independent rather than follow ben-Eliezer on a path that, for Peres personally, may end in political oblivion.

GOVERNMENT
Israel is a parliamentary democracy. Its governmental system is based on several basic laws enacted by its unicameral parliament, the Knesset. The president (chief of state) is elected by the Knesset for a 5-year term.
The prime minister (head of government) exercises executive power and has in the past been selected by the president as the party leader most able to form a government. Between May 1996 and March 2001, Israelis voted for the prime minister directly. (The legislation which required the direct election of the prime minister was rescinded by the Knesset in March 2001.) The members of the cabinet must be collectively approved by the Knesset.
The Knesset's 120 members are elected by secret ballot to 4-year terms, although the prime minister may decide to call for new elections before the end of the 4-year term. Voting is for party lists rather than for individual candidates, and the total number of seats assigned each party reflects that party's percentage of the vote. Successful Knesset candidates are drawn from the lists in order of party-assigned rank. Under the present electoral system, all members of the Knesset are elected at large.
The independent judicial system includes secular and religious courts. The courts' right of judicial review of the Knesset's legislation is limited. Judicial interpretation is restricted to problems of execution of laws and validity of subsidiary legislation. The highest court in Israel is the Supreme Court, whose judges are approved by the President.

Report from the Coordinating Board
Secretary/Treasurer, Jerry Mansfield, reported on Friday's meeting of the Coordinating Board. From that meeting we learned that IFLA will be making gradual changes to the organization. Some of the desired changes include the attraction of big name speakers to the annual conference, recruiting younger members, compete for conference content so that librarians will choose to attend IFLA over another conference, a review of paper presentations for quality control purposes and the awarding of a prize for the best newsletter which will be presented for the first time at the Jerusalem conference. We also learned that the IFLA Boston 2001 registration fee will be $50 less for members of IFLA and/or the American Library Association. Finally, pre-registration for the conference was about 1600 persons with more than 300 of those being Israelis. Additional registrations will occur throughout the conference. Chair of the Coordinating Board, Chris Wright, talked briefly about the annual Crimea Conference noting that IFLA members often attend this conference. The Professional Board is looking at this conference closely and attempting to determine if IFLA needs to have official representation there. In the meantime IFLA members are encouraged to wave the IFLA flag if they attend.
