Baker Family International Links Page These links have been selected from over 10,000. I have used those that contain actual online information, charge no fees for information, or contain the best information on each subject. I was tired of finding sites that ran you all over cyberspace with tons of links to other link pages, with alot of time spent (wasted) and no results. The sites I use are linked to one page of a website. Some sites have many pages, but I use the best all around info. for each site. Many are "hidden" sites, not promoted on search engines and hard to locate online. I will continue to check new sites and add to this list. I've run across many webpages offering to locate certain records, check library holdings, or do research for a fee. This same info. is easy to locate, you do not need someone to find it for you. Just because someone is in the area your ancestor resided does not mean they are more qualified than you are to get results, or have better ways to get that information. Many researchers may live in the area you want checked, and they use the Latter Day Saints Branch Libraries' micro-film for info. that you can get close to where you live. Check the L.D.S. Branch Library in your area.

Immigration and naturalization records help the family historian to understand the movements of their ancestry as they relocated to different parts of the world. They often tell us name, age, gender, occupation, country of embarkation, and country of destination. In addition to these categories, the immigration passenger lists may offer place of birth, last place of residence, and name and address of a relative in the immigrant’s native country, depending on the year.

Immigration and Naturalization Service's History, Genealogy and Education page contains information about the INS Historical Reference Library collection and services, documents concerning the history of the Service as well as of immigration law, procedure, and immigration stations, and instructions for historical and genealogical research using INS records. Millions of Americans trace their family history to an immigrant. According to an Ancestry.com article ( Rediscovering Passenger Lists ), "Since 1820, over 60 million persons have arrived at more than 100 different ports in the United States. . . ." Finding a record to reveal where that immigrant came from, or when and where they first stepped foot on American soil, is often a long and frustrating task. Resource materials of the US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) may help in some of this search, as they are the records of 20th century immigration to the United States. Even if an ancestor is located on some of the earlier passenger lists, requirements did not include recording home town, just the nationality.

    Jewish Genealogical Research
I conduct research on Jewish families using both United States public records and European records that are available here in the United States. While I am not making research trips to Europe for clients at this time, I do maintain contact with a number of European researchers who can help find additional records from various European countries. Some of the more common searches that I conduct for clients are described below.
    United States Record Searches
If you want to trace your Jewish roots and find out where your family came from in the "Old Country," don't assume you have to delve into European records to find any information. A thorough genealogical search begins with what you know and proceeds to discovering what you don't know. For most of us, that means finding out some more information about our grandparents and great-grandparents here in the United States before going any further. The four basic searches described below vital records, census records, naturalization records and passenger arrival records will usually provide a wealth of information about immigrants to the United States, including accurate birthdates and birthplaces, dates and places of immigration and emigration, names of other family members in the United States, original place of origin and names of relatives left behind in the "Old Country." These four searches should be the starting point if you are an American Jew searching for your Jewish roots.
