There are several species of kangaroo, the most famous being the red kangaroo common in arid regions of Australia. Forester Kangaroo, 1.15Mb QuickTime movie Due to the more mountainous and heavily vegetated environment of Tasmania, red kangaroos are not found in the state. However, the grey kangaroo (also known as the Eastern grey kangaroo or Forester kangaroo) is common, and is a protected species. Forester kangaroos can reach over 2m (6'7") in height when fully upright, and can jump 8m (26') in a single bound at high speed, although this would not happen so commonly in Tasmania. This type of kangaroo are most common in Tasmania's north-east, but can also be found in central Tasmania and on the east coast.

Animal Info - Index by Groups of Animals
This index groups animals which either are taxonomically related (e.g. Cats) or have similar names (e.g. Shrews, Elephant Shrews, and Tree Shrews (all found under "Shrews")). (This index is aimed at the non-technical reader and does not necessarily follow taxonomic groupings.) Each species is listed under only one common name and appears only once in this index, as opposed to the Species Index , where all common names and all scientific names known to us for each species are listed. Common names generally follow (*P) indicates that there are one or more links to pictures of the animal in the "Profile" section at the top of its web page.

Welcome to Jason McCartney online, we are currently rebuilding the site hoping to make it as good as new and we all wish Jason the best in his recovery to get back to playing Football again. Jason recently had a press conference in which he said he will try his hardest to return to footy but his main goal is his upcoming Wedding in December to his fiancee Nerissa Vanderhayden. We all hope Jason comes back better than ever and is remembered for the footballer he is. WELCOME TO JASON MCCARTNEY ONLINE Bourke given another year!!!
In other news David Bourke has somehow managed to be given another year at the Kangaroos, after playing a total of games last year and nearly taking that mark against the pies in the pre-season the club thought he showed enough to warrant another year on the list. The jokes on us you say? Oh dear no, you see we are paying him 25 grand a year while Richmond continue to pay him 200 grand a year. Already doing a find job down there Greg Miller. In other sad news that 70's guy Stu Cochrane and Byron were traded.

Photo courtsey Roger Birkel, The Baltimore Zoo. Red Kangaroo Scientific Name: Macropus rufus Home: The open arid plains and woodlands of central Australia Description: Long, hind, hoppin' limbs, short arms, large heavy tail, red fur on backs of males, gray fur on females, white furred bellies on both. Red kangaroos are famous for their hoppin' style and being the biggest marsupials around. Herbivores that graze mostly on grass, the red kangaroo congregates in groups of up to ten to feed together. These groups are based more on being in the same place than close family ties. Mother and joey stick together for years after the baby has left mama's pouch. Joeys are born as small, bean-sized hairless babies that climb up and into the safety of the pouch. That's where he continues to grow. After 33 weeks, a joey becomes too big to be carried around, but many try to climb back in until they get the message from mom that taxi-time is over! At top-speed kangaroos may make 12 foot leaps and reach a velocity of 30 mph! Even a lazy, SLOW hop can be as far as six feet! The long, heavy, and powerful kangaroo tail makes it all possible by providing balance and stability. Only tree kangaroos move their hind feet independently of one-another. The red kangaroo can't walk, it only hops! Bucks, or male kangaroos, aren't much for fighting to protect the herd when trouble comes, the whole herd scatters off in all directions! But when it comes to breeding rights, bucks KICKBOX! The two opponents clasp arms and try to kick each other in the belly!

roophilia Austral. colloq. + Gr. Welcome to Roophilia! Here you will find photographs of kangaroos and wallabies, many of which are unique, plus my observations on their anatomy and behaviour. Most of these photos are courtesy of the 'roos at the kangaroo feeding enclosure at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane, Australia. (This site is in no way affiliated with Lone Pine.) At the risk of sounding prudish, I want to point out that this not just an animal mating site. This site is intended to be my own personal celebration of the kangaroo form; an animal which I love very much. Please do be educated and entertained by my photos on kangaroo reproduction, but see it as part of a larger whole; as an expression of my holistic approach to this beautiful species. You can help to stop the slaughter of millions of kangaroos (and the systematic weakening of their gene pool) by cutting the underpinnings of the kangaroo industry! Man for man, the Kangaroos take some beating
By Robert Walls
July 23 2002
The Kangaroos after their stirring win over Port on Saturday.
Picture: WAYNE TAYLOR The courageous Kangaroos leapt into the eight with their gutsy win over league leader Port Adelaide on Saturday. In front of just over 9000 hardy souls who braved the elements at Optus Oval, the Kangaroos did the teams aspiring to win this year's premiership a huge favour. They exposed a chink in the Power armour. For the past three months the Power has steamrolled everything in its way. It has won with a combination of clean clearances at ruck contests, continual run, precise field kicking and very accurate kicking for goal. The Kangaroos put an end to it with their usual super hardness at the ball and the player with it, and by closing down the midfield runners and goal scorers. Coach Denis Pagan obviously knows the success formula as nine times he has coached against the Power for nine wins. Pagan's match-ups worked a treat. And no doubt Leigh Matthews, Mick Malthouse and co would have documented all of this for future reference. Stuart Dew, with 33 goals, is Port's second-highest goalkicker. David Teague wore him like a glove and restricted the burly left-footer to just one kick. Peter Burgoyne, with 28 goals, was opposed to Jess Sinclair. It was Sinclair's first negating role for the year. He did it well. Burgoyne had only eight kicks for one goal.

98. Kangaroo - Interesting Facts About The Australian Kangaroo
Information and photos and information about the kangaroos and the different types found in Australia.
http://koalaexpress.com.au/kangaroo facts.htm
A male kangaroo is called a boomer
A female kangaroo is called a flyer
A baby kangaroo is called a joey When European explorers first saw these strange hopping animals they asked a native Australian (aborigine) what they were called. He replied "kangaroo" meaning "I don't understand" your question. The explorers thought this was the animal's name. And that's how the kangaroo got its name. A Kangaroo is a marsupial mammal. It is a macropod which means "big foot". There are over 40 different types (species) of Kangaroo.
The smaller ones are usually called Wallabies. The largest is the Red Kangaroo.
It stands taller than a man and can weigh 85 kg's. It is the largest marsupial in the world. On the Australian coat of arms the Emu and the Kangaroo were selected as symbols of Australia to represent the country progress because they are always moving forward and never move backwards.
Kangaroos are the largest marsupial mammals. They belong to the Macropodidae family.

14 March 2002 Wayne Carey is driven away after a news conference last night at which he announced his resignation from the Kangaroos.
Picture: MICHAEL CLAYTON-JONES King Carey quits Kangaroos By Emma Quayle, Melissa Ryan, Karen Lyon The shock resignation of Wayne Carey, one of football's greatest players, last night had several rival clubs clamouring for his services in 2003 and brought a moving tribute from AFL chief executive Wayne Jackson. Carey, the Kangaroos' captain, resigned in dramatic circumstances, ending a 15-year association with the club, which is now in disarray on the eve of the new season. It is believed Carey was forced to resign by his teammates after details emerged of his romantic involvement with the wife of North's vice-captain, Anthony Stevens. The relationship was believed to have been discovered last Sunday night at the 30th birthday party of Lisa Archer, wife of teammate Glenn Archer. It is believed Carey and Stevens were then involved in a physical confrontation, which later involved Archer.
