For more information call:
Pattie Mansur,

Kansas City, MO. - Twenty Kansas City, Missouri, School District elementary schools have been awarded grants of $15,000 each to improve the literacy practices in their schools. The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation today announced the grant awards for the 1999-2000 school year.
The "Building a Balanced Literacy Program" grants will support the purchase of books; provide resources for schools to create classroom settings that support reading; provide funds to help teachers purchase training and professional development materials on literacy; and fund school programs that strengthen parent and community involvement in building students' literacy.
The Kauffman Foundation is committing $500,000 to the program for the 1999-2000 school year. Along with the individual school grants, participating schools will receive specialized professional development for their teachers and other staff, consultation on developing quality classroom libraries, and evaluation so the results of the programs can be measured.
To be eligible for the Balanced Literacy Program grants, schools had to describe their literacy goals and demonstrate commitment to those goals from 80 percent of their staff. They also had to submit statements of support from parents and teachers.

Welcome to Comprehensive Consulting... your resource for assessing and improving K-12 education. Our focus includes but is not limited to:
    • Assessing and Evaluating existing K-12 educational programs and providing suggestions about possible steps for future program improvements. Identifying misunderstood economic benchmarks of students, in the area of economics for the Missouri and Kansas Assessment Programs. We administer an economics diagnostic test to the students, which enables us to identify the exact areas they are weak in. In the second phase, we provide a customized teacher in-service that meets the studentsÂ’ actual needs. Further, since most schools suffer from student continuity, this method becomes a valuable tool in preparing and enhancing student performance on a yearly basis.
Providing K-12 teachers with the necessary and appropriate content, knowledge and understanding of social studies to successfully prepare their students for their state assessment. The teachers that participate in our programs, will not only be prepared to teach the content, but will also know how to help students successfully integrate social studies skills throughout the curriculum as well as develop instructional strategies through a variety of activities in a spiraling fashion. Assisting schools and school administrators to meet their State School Improvement Programs by providing effective educational methods and strategies as well as evidence based on empirical data of steps that are taken to improve K-12 Schools and K-12 student performance
