Get those alphabet letter names memorized quickly with our Cartoon Characters - Alphabet Activity Sheets - and Letter Writing Games. Their unique design is visually appealing - highly effective - and fun! By combining a number of powerful memorizing techniques your children will quickly succeed with this first important step in becoming a successful reader.. Skills taught include -
    name of the letter-
    sound of the letter-
    writing of the letter-

    the spatial skills -
on - above - below over - under front - behind right - left and phonemic awareness skills for beginning sounds. WOW!! Also just completed are the new Alphabet Letter Handwriting Activities!! Go to free Alphabet Worksheets 2nd Step to teaching reading is to have student(s) memorize the consonant and consonant digraph sounds Once you student(s) can each say the name of each letter of the alphabet, it is then time to memorize the sound made by the letter. Examples of consonant sounds are "b says buh" - "s says ssss" - etc. Consonant digraphs are the letters ch - sh - th - wh. Moving a student into a reading situation before these sounds are memorized is a recipe for failure for 75% of our children. The TampaRead's consonant memorizing worksheets are truly different from any others you have seen in the industry and really get the job done fast. This is possible because we have devised a way to practice one sound for an entire worksheet while also keeping the materials interesting and relevant.

Bibliography Early Reading Activities Research has shown that children whose parents read to them become better readers and do better in school (Snow, Burns, and Griffin 1998). Other family activities such as telling stories and singing songs may also encourage children's acquisition of literacy skills (National Education Goals Panel 1997) and enhance their chances for success in school (Snow 1991). Data collected by the National Household Education Surveys Program in 1993 and 1999 show how frequently families with young children engage in these literacy-building activities. table 52-1 With the exception of being taught songs or music, children with multiple risk factors were less likely than those with no risk factors or only one to engage in literacy activities with their families at least three times a week. In 1999, 67 percent of children with two or more risk factors were read to at least three times a week, compared with 92 percent of children with no risk factors and 83 percent of those with one. Likewise, 39 percent of children with two or more risk factors were told a story at least three times a week, compared with 54 percent of children without any risk factors and 57 percent of children with one.

Early reading activities in the home
Family participation in reading activities provides valuable developmental experiences for young children. In addition to developing an interest in reading, children who are read to, told stories, and visit the library may start school better prepared to learn than other students. Engaging young children in reading activities at home also enables parents and other family members to become actively involved in their children's education at an early age.
  • In 1996, at least 80 percent of children ages 3-5 were read to or told a story in the past week by a parent or family member, while 38 percent had visited a library in the past month. The percentage of children who were read to or told a story was higher in 1996 than in 1991.
  • Children ages 3-5 who were not enrolled in preprimary education were usually as likely to have been read to or told a story by a parent or family member in the past week as those 3- to 5-year-olds who were enrolled in kindergarten or center-based care in 1996. However, children ages 3-5 who were not enrolled in preprimary education were less likely to have visited a library in the past month than children who were enrolled in kindergarten or a center-based program.

Finding the treasure is simple the user must earn stars by successfully completing reading activities. Once five stars have been collected, the race for treasure is on. To complete the hunt, kids navigate a simple maze, aided by underwater buddies. In addition to the five reading activities, a treasure room is set up for each registered user. This room not only stores accumulated treasure, it also includes word flash cards, a kid-friendly word processor, B-mail which receives lighthearted messages from Blaster friends, stories that can be read aloud and printed, and a personalized star chart, mapping the user’s progress in the program. Educational Value Reading Blaster for Kindergarten includes five different learning activities with five distinct ability levels. Changing levels greatly influences the material covered in the activities, so that it looks like a new game each time the child moves up a level. For example, the ‘Clamshell Scramble’ asks kids to correctly order scrambled puzzle elements. At the simplest level this means putting the letters in the right order to spell a given word, while at Level 5, kids are asked to sequence words to complete sentences.
