NH Almanac A Brief History of New Hampshire Early historians record that in 1623, under the authority of an English land-grant, Captain John Mason, in conjunction with several others, sent David Thomson, a Scotsman, and Edward and Thomas Hilton, fish-merchants of London, with a number of other people in two divisions to establish a fishing colony in what is now New Hampshire, at the mouth of the Piscataqua River. One of these divisions, under Thomson, settled near the river's mouth at a place they called Little Harbor or "Pannaway," now the town of Rye, where they erected salt-drying fish racks and a "factory" or stone house. The other division under the Hilton brothers set up their fishing stages on a neck of land eight miles above, which they called Northam, afterwards named Dover. Nine years before that Captain John Smith of England and Later of Virginia, sailing along the New England coast and inspired by the charm of our summer shores and the solitude of our countrysides, wrote back to his countrymen that: "Here should be no landlords to rack us with high rents, or extorted fines to consume us. Here every man may be a master of his own labor and land in a short time. The sea there is the strangest pond I ever saw. What sport doth yield a more pleasant content and less hurt or charge than angling with a hook, and crossing the sweet air from isle to isle over the silent streams of a calm sea?"

PETITION for mandamus , to compel the defendants to furnish some means of transporting him to one of the schools maintained in the district. Transferred from the may term, 1911, of the superior court by Pike, J., on the plaintiff's exception to the dismissal of the petition.
The plaintiff lives four and one fifth miles from the nearest school, and the defendants decline to convey his son, who is about nine years old. There is but one other scholar in that locality, and she lives upon a different road. If the board were to furnish transportation for the plaintiff's boy, it would be for his benefit alone. It is impracticable to maintain a school in the plaintiff's district, and the board cannot furnish the transportation desired for any reasonable expense, or without the expenditure of funds wholly out of proportion to the amount which could properly be expended per scholar in the district, thereby depriving many other scholars of the advantages they now have.

What do general managers do?
General managers and top executives plan, organize, direct, control, and coordinate the operations of an organization and its major departments or programs. Although they have a wide range of titles such as chief executive officer, president, executive vice president, owner, partner- all formulate policies and direct the operations of businesses and corporations. The nature of high level executives' responsibilities depends upon the size of the organization. In large organizations, their duties are highly specialized. In smaller organizations, such as independent retail stores or small manufacturers, a partner, owner, or general manager is often also responsible for purchasing, hiring, training, quality control, and day-to-day supervisory duties.
What degree options are available in general managment?
Undergraduates can earn a bachelor¹s degree in management or take courses in management as part of a business degree. MBA students can choose a concentration in management, and some schools offer master¹s degrees and PhDs in general management.
What¹s the difference between a Master of General Management and an MBA with a general management concentration?

Some New Hampshire Government officials display cavalier attitude toward the health and safety of constituents.
In the following letter the deputy attorney general is responding to the fraudulent licensing listed on our web page, titled Fraud. He states he is speaking on behalf of the governor. ANMA was not aware of those individuals seeking licensure until after they were already granted licenses. It appears New Hampshire is not willing to license credible and knowledgeable individuals from correspondent schools, but would rather license individuals pretending to be from four year resident schools.

Bilingual New Arrival Conferencing (BiNAC)
When a newly arrived pupil for whom English is an additional language (EAL) is referred to the Hampshire Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (Hampshire EMA Service) we can offer schools BiNAC training. Schools can decide whether it is more appropriate to have a whole-school training session, which could include support staff, or whether to have a small conferencing session which may involve only a few staff who will be more closely involved with the pupil's progress and welfare. The training will consist of a workshop INSET session. which will focus on the needs of new arrivals, including input on literacy and will enable staff to use a range of practical strategies to support language and literacy development across the curriculum. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to share background information arising from assessment of newly arrived pupils and discuss any concerns staff may have.
