UVTI, the Upper Valley Teacher Institute of Lebanon, New Hampshire, has been helping talented candidates become great teachers for over 30 years. UVTI is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and approved for teacher certification by the State of New Hampshire. At UVTI, adult college graduates learn the art and science of teaching through full-time classroom internships. They also participate in weekly seminars and workshops. Areas of Certification Admissions Procedure Education Curriculum The Teacher Certification Program is a conversion program that is intended for those candidates who possess at least a baccalaureate degree. It is approved by the New Hampshire Department of Education and is designed to take advantage of a person's educational background in meeting the state requirements for certification. The program supplements a candidate's background with the education and training in the area of professional education that is required for New Hampshire certification in one of the following areas: Art English Biology Mathematics Elementary Social Science All students in the program, regardless of intended certification, must take four core courses: ED212 Foundations and Issues in Education, ED220 Classroom Organization and Management, ED312 Teaching Students with Special Needs, and PS242 Psychology of Education. These courses are offered at the Nashua, Portsmouth and Rindge campuses. Additionally, all students must complete three credits of field experience work (ED255 Field Experience I, ED256 Field Experience II and ED257 Field Experience III). Field experiences are a valuable component of the program and candidates must be able to schedule time for such field experiences. Each experience requires being in a school for 5 days. The time does not need to be consecutive and may be satisfied in half-day blocks. The remaining courses in a student's certification program depend on the type of certification desired.
