Why So Valuable What Churches Existed Where New York Reformed Dutch Churches New Jersey Reformed Dutch Churches ... A Final Word One of the most valuable tools for a researcher looking for Dutch ancestors in America are the Reformed Dutch Church Records. In its infancy, this Church was referred to as the Reformed Dutch Church, but in recent times, this Church has sometimes come to be known as the Dutch Reformed Church.
Why So Valuable
What Churches Existed Where
Anytime a church record is consulted, a certain pattern is followed, whether the record is in Dutch, or has been translated into English. In English, the pattern is the date of baptism (sometimes the date of birth also), the name of the child, the names of the parents and the names of the witnesses. If the record is kept in Dutch, the same pattern is followed, only the following words are used. Kinder = Child. Ouders = parents. Geboren = Born. Gedopt = Baptized. Getuygen = Witnesses. One may ask, what church do I look for and where do I find its records? These two questions are addressed in the following two sections. Before looking at these two sections, however, here are examples of how records are kept. English Translation Example: (Schraalenburgh Reformed Dutch Church)

The church profiles on Reformed.Net are not church home pages, nor am I a member of any of the churches profiled on this site (although I have belonged to some). The church profiles are a very cursory overview of a congregation's history when they got started, where they've worshipped, who has pastored them, and membership over the years. Information may not be current. The goal of my research is to develop an understanding of the normal growth patterns of churches in an urban area.

    http://members.aol.com/sakerthing/sr-00.htm
In many parts of the United States a listing of local resources related to Sweden would probably not fill a single screen. But in the Delaware Valley, as you will see, we will need a web site with many pages to give you an idea of all the resources available. Why is it so? Well, the first Swedes ever to visit this continent landed in 1638 on the western shores of the Delaware River at what is now the city of Wilmington, DE. Swedish Settlement On The Delaware 2 Volumes

[see New Stockholm below] A map at the end of this page shows the landing site on the western shore of the Delaware River The table below will initially contain some of the older resources/sites. My intention though is to eventually cover most aspects of the local resources up to the last minute info on the just opened Swedish restaurant [if we ever are to see that happen!] I will be most happy to receive suggestions regarding sites/resources to be included.
