The 24th District's ten counties encompass 12,292 square miles, 26 percent of the area of the entire State of New York. The district's 580,338 residents comprise 3.2 percent of the state's population. Only 50 of America's 435 Congressional Districts are larger in land area. On the East Coast, the only district having a greater land area is the 2nd District of Maine. It is larger in size than 42 nations and eight of the United States (Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont). It borders the Canadian Provinces of Ontario and Quebec on the west and north, Lake Champlain on the east and extends south to the New York State Thruway. It contains the entire American section of the St. Lawrence Seaway and most of the 3.7 million acres of the Adirondack Park. It contains seven cities: Fulton, Gloversville, Johnstown, Ogdensburg, Oswego, Plattsburgh, and Watertown. Within its boundaries are six New York State Assembly and four New York State Senate Districts.

Pete Hamill, New York Daily News "A detailed history of Washington Square Park, the heart of Greenwich Village, that reflects its growth and change from farmland to the elite enclave described by Henry James and Edith Wharton to the present dominance of New York University... Numerous black-and-white drawings, maps, and photographs help track the changes... [A] well-documented account of Washington Square and its vicissitudes." Kirkus Reviews It Happened on Washington Square by Emily Kies Folpe is a thorough and thoroughly delightful look at the long and far-from-finished history of one of America's most beloved and enduring city parks a small but life-shaping place for generation after generation that now has its own historian." Counties of New York State
NOTE: It is quite common for county boundaries to have changed considerably between the 1830s and today. Those which were in very rural areas are apt to have been split up into smaller counties as the population increased. For now, though, I must use current maps, and make corrections later.
    Albany
Bordered on the east by the Hudson River , with the city of Albany around the middle of that boundary line. The Mohawk river , where it joins the Hudson around 10 miles nort of Albany, comprises part of the northern border of the county.
    Clinton
Northernmost of the eastern border counties, it borders on most of the widest part of Lake Champlain, with Vermont on the other side of the lake. Quebec, Canada is its Northern neighbor, with no natural divider; only a straight longitudinal line. Its other neighbors are Franklin county on the west, and Essex on the South. Its biggest town is Plattsburgh, on the lake.
    Columbia
Bounded by the Hudson River on the west, and Connecticut and Massachusetts on the east. It is about one fourth of the way up the long eastern boundary of the state. Its major town is called

The Northeast —In New York and New England, the Appalachian highlands dissolve into such highlands as the Adirondacks, the Catskills and White Mountains. Geography Lesson Princeton men's basketball has literally gone from coast to coast. Jan. 9, 2003 When Princeton played in the Cable Car Classic between Christmas and New Year's, it marked a homecoming of sorts for the four Tigers from the state of California. That would be more than 25% of the current roster. In recent years, Princeton's roster has had a decidedly Californian flair to it. Beginning with the Class of 2000, Princeton has had 32% (six of 19) of its players who have either lettered as seniors or are still on the team come from the Golden State. That trend is set for the near future, as two of the four members of the incoming Class of 2007 are from California. Of all the trends in Princeton basketball in the last 30 years, perhaps the most interesting and least talked about is not the shot clock, the three-pointer or the up-tempoing of the offense. It's geography.

95. Distributed (Virtual) Teams: Overcoming Time And Geography?
Section from a management information systems course on virtual teams as taskbased groups that use technology to overcome some of the frictions of time and geography.

Working in Virtual Teams
Overcoming Time and Geography?
Following from the section on Virtual Organisations , this section will look at a different form of vitual group: The Virtual Team. The Encyclopedia from CALT at Insead offers a large selection of material that may be of general interest for this and other sections concerned with different types of virtual group. The concept of the virtual team is not clearly defined, and it often overlaps with notions such as the virtual or networked organization, the virtual workplace, virtual communities, electronic commerce and certain forms of teleworking. Virtual Teams are seen as essentially project or task focused groups. The team membership may be relatively stable (e.g. in an established sales team) or change on a regular basis (e.g. in project teams). Their members may be drawn from the same organization, (e.g. production planners and production operatives) or from several different organizations, (e.g. when projects involve consultants or external assessors). Further distinctions can be made on physical proximity, (i.e. whether or not team members are co-located and can interact face-to-face or are geographically separated) and by work-cycle synchronicity, (i.e. whether or not members interact in the same or different time periods). In contrast to home based work and telework For a further discussion of this topic, see
