Molleen,
Ok, here's the sort of information that I have been able to find. There are two particularly large repositories of information: the Putnam Standards Page and the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse (ENC) The Putnam page has a page for each state, and, if one exists, a link to framework pages at the respective state's web site. ENC has links to a couple of documents at its own web page, and, more importantly, references to hard copies of most states' frameworks that they have. Thus far, I've only gotten through to Idaho or so in terms of going and checking out what is really out there. Let me know what you think of all this.

By James Yellowlees, Ph.D. KINDERGARTEN TO HIGH SCHOOL (K-12) St. Mary's International School is a boy's school that was founded by Canadian Catholic missionaries in Tokyo in 1954 and moved to its current location in Setagaya-ku in 1972. It offers an international baccalaureate diploma and an international curriculum, with an emphasis on American college preparation. Headmaster Brother Michel Jutras, a long-term Tokyo resident, noted that, "the majority of our 930 students go on to study at U.S. or Canadian universities." St. Mary's offers good sports facilities, and strong athletic teams, a relatively spacious campus and a green, residential setting. It also offers unique classes such as architectural drawing and places a strong emphasis on music programs. Tel: 3709-3411 Fax: 3707-1950 Mail: BSantos@smis.ac.jp

Pomeroy Announces Funding Increases for Education and the Outlook for 2001
Washington, DC
Congressman Earl Pomeroy went back to school today to discuss recently enacted funding increases for education as well as the outlook for education reform in the new session of Congress. Last month, additional funds were appropriated for numerous education initiatives and North Dakota schools can now expect an increase of nearly $22 million over last year's funding levels. This year, Congress is expected to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the major legislation providing federal support for public education. "The funding increases approved last month will make a real difference to students and teachers here in North Dakota. It is hard to imagine a more important goal than providing a quality education for each and every child in North Dakota. As a result of increases in programs like Title I, Class Size Reduction, and School Renovation, North Dakota will receive an additional $21.9 million this year," Pomeroy said this morning at a roundtable discussion with Carrington School officials. The Consolidated Appropriations Act for fiscal year (FY) 2001, which passed on Friday, December 15, contained a number of important education provisions that will help North Dakota schools:

Hoeven Commends Bismarck High, Announces Expansion Of PowerSchool Student Information System Implementation
BISMARCK, N.D. - Governor John Hoeven today commended Bismarck High School for pioneering the state’s new PowerSchool from Apple student information system in cooperation with the state’s Information Technology Department (ITD), and announced that the program will be rolled out statewide. The PowerSchool software application project is part of the Enterprise Resource Planning System (ERP), and will provide North Dakota elementary and high schools with state-of-the-art software to manage K-12 school records and performance. More than 45 schools have lined up to sign on so far, which will serve about 60 percent of the state’s K-12 students, according to Hoeven. “This is a powerful tool for tracking student achievement and coordinating administrative tasks,” Hoeven said. “Excellence in education is our goal, and this program will help achieve that goal.” Selected by over 3,000 schools nationwide, PowerSchool from Apple is the leading web-based student information system for K-12 schools and school districts. PowerSchool gives school administrators and teachers the ability to easily and cost-effectively manage student records, and gives parents real-time access to track their children’s progress.

Distance K-12
For parents, particularly homeschoolers, distance education provides the opportunity to supplement a child's learning experience with a subject which might be out of the normal realm of expertise. For instance, if your daughter wants to take trigonometry but math was never your strong point, she could enroll in a distance learning math class. You could go beyond course supplements and use a distance program as your child's complete educational framework. Furthermore, since distance classes can either be high-tech independent studies taken whenever is convenient or a group class with a fixed schedule, you can choose which fits with your circumstances and your child's learning style.
Accreditation
Accreditation is a different animal on the K-12 level than on the higher education one. Because of the varied state regulations concerning homeschooling (or any form of non-traditional learning) accreditation isn't critical as with colleges and universities. Furthermore, most of the regionals aren't particularly equipped to handle the uniquenesses of distance primary and secondary schools. To address this issue, the regional accrediting agencies have created a new accrediting agency called The Commission on International and Trans-regional Accreditation (CITA). (You can find a list of CITA and regionally accredited K-12 schools by searching the
