FCASD District Information School Board Notes 1999-2000 School Board Notes September 13, 1999 ROLL CALL PUBLIC COMMENTS Information Additionally, Fox Chapel Borough Mayor Harry W. McLaughlin, Jr. presented a proclamation at the in-service on behalf of local municipal officials and all the residents of the six communities which comprise the Fox Chapel Area School District. The proclamation addressed the fact that a strong school system is essential to the continued viability of a municipality and produces committed and responsible citizens. The proclamation commended the Board of School Directors, the administration, and the staffs of all six schools in the district "for their commitment to excellence on behalf of their students and the entire community." The proclamation was signed by Ben F. Killian, mayor of the Borough of Aspinwall; Thomas M. Smith, mayor of the Borough of Blawnox; McLaughlin; Jeffrey D. Peck, mayor of the Township of Indiana; Denis J. Meinert, president of the O’Hara Township Council; and Donald C. Schubert, Jr., mayor of the Borough of Sharpsburg. The district also received a letter from U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley which was shared at the August 25 opening in-service. The letter commended the district for its Blue Ribbon designations at all six schools. In the letter Riley stated, among other things, "The remarkable success of your schools proves that with a supportive community behind them, our schools can provide every child an excellent education.....Blue Ribbon Schools across the country serve their communities by preparing young students to meet the challenges of the next century.
