Pennsylvania Libraries Continue to Choose TLC's Library.Solution
INWOOD, WV, September 26, 2001- Adams County Library System (ACLS) and Wayne County Library System (WCLS) have recently chosen TLC's Library .Solution as their integrated library system, joining over 40 sites using Library.Solution in Pennsylvania. Adams County Library System ACLS will upgrade from their Gaylord Galaxy system to Library.Solution this Fall. Commenting on the recent purchase was ACLS Director Carl Heidenblad, "We liked the way Library.Solution provided an efficient, powerful workflow for the library staff, while at the same time keeping the workflows simple. Our library system depends heavily upon intra system lending and collection rotation, and Library.Solution's features will enable us to do this quickly and efficiently. We were also impressed with the several ways the system 'connects' with the public. We can't wait to offer our patrons the ability to check the catalog, initiate reserves and interlibrary loans, and to check their borrowing records all from home." When asked what ACLS liked most about TLC, Heidenblad responded, "TLC is a family owned company with an outstanding reputation for service to its customers."

http://www.ccpa.net/ls/cclsPALibraries.html
State Budget Cuts Library Support 50% !
In the budget recently passed by the legislature and signed by Governor Rendell, public libraries will lose 50% of their basic operating support for services in 2004. This money is absolutely critical for libraries to open their doors each day. Unless a supplemental appropriations bill for 2003-2004 is passed , existing services which are needed and expected by our community will be set back a decade or more.
How will it effect Cumberland County?
A 50% cut means that the Cumberland County Library System will lose about 1/5 of its operating budget or $734,286.
Libraries already operate on slim margins. A big cut like this means significant service reductions for the people who need them the most:
  • Preschoolers will have fewer books to help them get ready to read. With reduced library story times, many will not have the chance to develop a love for books and a desire to read. Reading readiness for kindergarten will not be achieved. will not have the special materials they need — large print books and books-on-tape — to keep their minds alert and bring enjoyment to their lives Beginning readers will have fewer books to help them learn to read and less support over the summer months to maintain and improve their reading skills Busy Families will have fewer times available to visit the library Job seekers will not have as many up-to-date newspapers or business directories. With fewer computers available, there will be fewer opportunities to use the Internet for job searches
