Philosophy. My General Thoughts on Teaching and Index of Anecdotes SupportingMy Thoughts. I believe that every child has the ability to change the world.
http://www.valpo.edu/home/student/asynave/webpage/philosophy.html
Philosophy My General Thoughts on Teaching and Index of Anecdotes Supporting My Thoughts I believe that every child has the ability to change the world. However, before he or she can change the world, he or she needs to change themselves. Teachers can help children make this change by provide them with an education that is meaningful and will allow them to do great things. I believe that self-esteem is very important. Every child is unique. A teacher should help each child feel comfortable with his or her uniqueness and use it to add to and succeed in the classroom. Appealing to a child's uniqueness is one way to make his or her learning experience meaningful. I believe that learning and doing are not mutually exclusive activities. Lecture means nothing until it is applied. I believe that hands-on activities are great supplements to lecture and should be used whenever possible. Hands-on activities allow the children to construct knowledge for themselves and therefore make that knowledge their own. This makes it meaningful to them. Only when it is meaningful can students use knowledge to achieve great things. Finally, I believe that what is meaningful to children is what they see and do. I can lecture all day to children, but if they see me doing the opposite of what I say, none of what I say means anything. The children will mimic what I do. In other words, my actions speak louder than my words. I am very careful to live up to the position as a role model that I have been given and I encourage parents and community members to join me in "practicing what we preach."
