The Atlas of the Vascular Plants of Utah
This is a digital version of the Atlas of the Vascular Plants of Utah authored by Beverly J. Albee, Leila M. Shultz, and Sherel Goodrich, published by the Utah Museum of Natural History, 1988. The original document consists of maps of the state of Utah showing collection locations for 2,438 documented plant species. The authors critically examined approximately 400,000 specimens during a seven year time span to create the original paper atlas. Each location contained in the original atlas was hand-digitized into a Geographic Information System. This database contains over 72,000 individual collection locations within the state of Utah. We have organized this digital document by plant family name. Individual species and their maps are located under the appropriate family. Aceraceae

Biota of North America Program (BONAP). The Biota of North America Program has developed an incredible resource on the vascular plants of North America. This section of BONAP gives you access to several alternative classifications of the vascular plants and a gateway to systematic resources at the family level. If you choose "Select Family", you will eventually be led to a list of web resources for any particular plant family including checklists, catalogs, distribution maps, photographs, and much more. Included among these resources are BONAP's own synonymical checklists of the vascular plant species of North America. This site is truly marvelous. Plants Database . USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. An incredible site based primarily on the John Kartesz checklist of North American Plants. The site contains a searchable database of the North American plant species including photographs and distribution maps. You can also search the site by U.S. states or common name. You'll also find fact sheets, phylogeny, threatened and endangered species, weeds and invasive species, and wetland species. Highly recommended.

PSILOTOPHYTA (WHISK FERNS) The subphylum Psilotophyta (Psilophyta or Psilopsida) represents the most primitive vascular plants. These plants arose in the Silurian and Devonian and are characterized by the presence of tracheids, but they lack true roots or leaves. The group is probably completely extinct, although two genera ( Psilotum and Tmesipteris , neither found in North America) are sometimes placed as members of this primitive group.

(generated by comparing Hickman [1993] and Mozfarrian [1996], and using the nomenclature of Hickman [1993]). The bulk of these are presumably indigenous to Iran, but the distinction between native and naturalized is not noted by Mozfarrian or Iranian floras in general.

    The Pullen Herbarium
The Pullen Herbarium was founded in 1963 in the Department of Biology, and the collection now consists of over 62,000 vascular plant specimens, mainly from Mississippi and the southeastern United States. Thomas M. Pullen, the first curator, collected extensively in northern Mississippi, and several of his students conducted county floras. Specimens made by Samuel B. Jones, then of the University of Southern Mississippi, are abundant. The Pullen Herbarium also includes the historically important collections of E.N. Lowe, A. Allison and T.L. Bailey from around the late 1800's and early 1900's. A collection of 473 bryophytes and lichens from around the United States includes an entire set of Mississippi specimens made by A.M. Harvill, L.E. Anderson, R.M. Schuster and J.C. Wilkes. A Database of Plant Cis-acting Regulatory DNA Elements
    What is PLACE?
PLACE is a database of motifs found in plant cis-acting regulatory DNA elements, all from previously published reports. It covers vascular plants only. In addition to the motifs originally reported, their variations in other genes or in other plant species reported later are also compiled. The PLACE database also contains a brief description of each motif and relevant literature with PubMed ID numbers. DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank nucleotide sequence databases accession numbers will be also included. Information on cis-elements can also be obtained by Keyword Search . List of entries can be found in ' place.dat The query sequence can be searched for the presence of motifs identical with or similar to the previously reported cis-element motifs in the PLACE database by Signal Scan Search or by Homology Search (Sample of Signal Scan can be found in ' input.txt
