News Team members open up race season with a climb Team Tri Platypi members travel to the rolling hills of Birmingham, Alabama for Whistlestop and Powerman duathlon races. Team members Francis Asprodites, Lauren Farrae, John O'Neill, and Jen Perez raced Whistlestop consisting of 4k/28k/4k and finished with remarkable results despite the race conditions. In the 16-19 age group John O'neill and Jen Perez both took 2nd place, Francis Asprodites took 3rd place, and Lauren Farrae took 4th place. Also racing, was Matt LeMond in the Powerman 8k/55k/8k distance and finishing 3rd place in his age group. Team Tri Platypi Dominates in Dallas Matt LeMond, Jen Perez, and Christy Tucker competed in Fast and Furious Formula 1 Duathlon. The Formula 1 style of racing includes a 2mile/10mile/2mile/10mile/2mile combination of running and cycling. Matt produced an impressive performance: he finished 15th place overall but suffered from a lack of nutrition and hydration. Also showing outstanding performances were Christy Tucker with a consistent run pace throughout all three runs and Jen Perez with an incredible performance after starting the race with a hard first run. Team Tri Platypi travels to California Team Tri Platypi travels to California for many exciting expierences before the start of the season. The Team met with many different coaches, teachers, and students while visiting many college campuses such as UC Santa Barbara, San Diego State Univ., Santa Barbara City College, UC San Diego, Univ. of Sourthen California, and CS Long Beach. Also the team traveled to beautiful snow-filled Mammoth Lakes, California. Team members Lauren Farrae and Jen Perez shocked the winter sport community with thier impressive, hardcore style of snowboarding. Also, the Team would like to personally thank all of those who helped to make the trip possible. We would like to extand our warmest thanks to Bert, the U.C.S.B. Triathlon Coach, for housing us in Santa Barbara and providing us with a wonderful tour of the campus. Overall, the trip was wonderful; and we all had a marvelous time. We look forward to our next trip to Birmingham, Alabama, the site of the 2003 Powerman Alabama Duathlon.
