General Information
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Professional Development Center (PDC) is to provide high quality professional development to school teachers and administrators in north central Massachusetts. Its philosophy of professional development has evolved since its founding from the identification and provision of enrichment activities and training workshops for teachers to the strategic planning of school restructuring initiatives with member school districts along with the facilitation and implementation of those initiatives in order to affect systems through working with individuals. ACADEMIC CREDIT Some professional development offerings can be taken for Fitchburg State College graduate credit. These courses meet the standards of the Continuing Education Department but are not part of the degree programs. Courses that qualify for graduate credit may also be taken for PDPs. PDPS Certificates are awarded for each professional development offering

State Certification Glossary of Terms and Certificate Explanations: Accredited Institution: Any post-secondary institution accredited by one of the six regional accrediting commissions.
Approved
In-Service Coursework: Staff development activities which have been approved, prior to the initiation of the activity, by the Office of Teacher Preparation, Certification, and Professional Development. Such approval will also indicate number of credit hours to be allowed for the activity.
Approved Institution: Any Rhode Island post-secondary institution approved by the Board of Governors for Higher Education.
Approved Program: A post-secondary teacher education program holding current approved status under the program standards of the State Department of Education. Initial certification is granted to individuals who have completed an approved program within the last five years.
Demonstrated Teaching Experience: A statement from the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee indicating the actual experience in terms of subject area, grade level, and length of said experience.
