Acquire Resources
Restored wetland habitat at this school in Arlington, VA. The next step in creating a Schoolyard Habitats® project involves getting materials, community outreach, planting and creation of your site. It is important to remember that money need not be a limiting factor to the success of your project. Many national and local organizations and agencies provide grants to Schoolyard Habitats projects. Additionally, by reaching out to the community you will be amazed at the amount of in-kind donation and volunteer support you can obtain. Grants Grants vary widely in terms of the amount of their awards, who is eligible to apply, and the types of projects they seek to support. Because Schoolyard Habitats projects accomplish so many goals, they often are eligible for many types of grants. Consider this: a local watershed protection organization may like to support plantings of native species, while a violence prevention agency may award the work being done to build a sense of community through the project; a private foundation or business focused on improving science education may fund curriculum purchases or Schoolyard Habitats educator trainings, while a regional environmental group may fund your efforts to attract pollinators! Look carefully at the mission of the funding organization, and look for a meaningful connection between the Schoolyard Habitats project and their interests. Schoolyard Habitats Fundraising Resources
Many organizations will give grants or in-kind donations to schools which are building Schoolyard Habitats sites.

Why Tuning In To My Future?
Because of its Comprehensive Companion CD.
The Tuning In Companion CD Our easy-to-use and comprehensive CD provides plenty of additional material to help expand the depth of career education offered in the classroom while providing valuable resources for students, teachers and parents, such as:
  • Connections to dozens of websites to help the user explore careers, schools, and life-on-my own options.
Our goal is to help teachers, students, and parents quickly pinpoint the most useful sites on the Web.
  • Directions and sample templates to teach students how to create their own "It's All About Me!" presentations using PowerPoint.
This just makes it easier to integrate career education into yet another subject area.
  • Tip Sheet printouts to use to communicate with parents about your career exploration efforts and how they can keep the momentum going at home.
These printouts make communicating with parents almost effortless.

Why Tuning In To My Future?
Because teachers can easily integrate
it into their curriculum.
The Teacher's Implementation Guide "Tuning In To My Future" has proven to be an excellent tool for using Language Arts while exploring the world of work. The guide enhances the students' desire to learn about themselves and potential career goals while at the same time helps develop writing skills. The ownership that comes with having to be accountable for the goals and course activities makes the whole process much more valid.

  • Accompanying Teacher's Guide and Appendix - providing page-by-page assistance , follow-up activities and fast facts for further discovery and discussion.
  • Helpful CD articles, tip sheets, templates and useful Web Links.
And maybe best of all, teachers will appreciate the program's:

She has, up to this point, been a very good student. She has excelled in everything that she has been given. This year her grades have been slipping. For example last week she got a 65 on a spelling test and this week she got a 52 on her science worksheet. I know that she could do better. I think that her problem comes from a lack of focus or maybe she just doesn't care. I feel as if I should speak with her teacher but I am not sure what to ask. I go over all her homework at home so I know that she can do the work. Do you have any suggestions on how I can teach her to be more serious about her work?

Athletics Philosophy of Ministry of Bethel Lutheran School Preamble It is the will of our Lord Jesus Christ that His disciples should carry out His Great Commission to make disciples of all people (Matthew 28:18-20). That Christ's Great Commission for His Church might be carried out according to His will, He has commanded that Christians baptize and teach (Mark 16:16), unite in worship (Hebrews 10:24-25), practice fellowship with one another (Acts 2:42), witness to all men (Acts 1:8). help each other grow in the Word (Ephesians 4:11-14), serve the needs of all men in Christian love (Ephesians 4:7-16, Mark 10:42-44, John 13:35, Galatians 6:10), administer the Office of the Keys as His Church (John 20:21-23, Matthew 18:15-20), and maintain decency and order (1 Corinthians 14-40) in the Church. Mission Statement We, as believers and disciples of Jesus Christ and members of His Body here at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church and School, in response to His Commission to make disciples of all peoples and in awareness of our unique, collective gifts, clearly see the mission before us to worship – to grow – to serve.

Four Clarke County Teachers Earn National Certification
Four teachers in the Clarke County School District have earned their profession's top honor by achieving National Board Certification.
National Board Certification is a distinguished honor for instructors who are teaching according to strict guidelines established by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. The NBPTS is an independent organization which promotes rigorous standards for accomplished teachers.
Clarke County's newest National Board Certified teachers are: Freida Thomas, a gifted education and advanced math teacher at Alps Road Elementary; Emily Carr, a second grade teacher at Fourth Street Elementary; Barbara Michalove, Fourth Street Elementary literacy coordinator; and Halley Page, gifted education instructor at Fowler Drive Elementary.
"While our schools have many excellent teachers, I want to make sure we applaud those who have gone through the difficult process of earning National Board Certification," said Superintendent Lewis Holloway. "This is an amazing accomplishment for the teachers, but it is our students who ultimately benefit by working with these outstanding educators."
To become Nationally Board Certified, teachers complete a rigorous performance-based assessment that takes nearly a year to complete. Through this process, teachers document their deep knowledge of the subject matter they teach, provide evidence that they know how to teach their subjects to students effectively, and demonstrate their ability to manage and measure student learning.
