Materials Selection Policies Russell Library General Materials Selection Policy The library supports the "Library Bill of Rights" and the "Freedom to Read", statements adopted by the American Library Association. These documents are included as Appendices. Book and/or library materials selection is the responsibility of the Library Director and, under his/her direction, members of the library's professional staff in accordance with selection policies as adopted by the Board of Trustees. Suggestions for purchase from the public are welcome and will be given serious consideration within the limits of these policies. The library will attempt to maintain as balanced and as varied a collection as possible. Specialization or duplication will be considered as local interest or need dictates. Materials will be selected to cover a variety of tastes, interests, purposes, and reading levels to fill the informational, recreational, and educational need of all residents of Middletown. Library materials will include but are not limited to the following formats: books, periodicals, newspapers, pamphlets, pictures, films, videotapes, maps, sound recordings, microforms, art prints, realia, audio-visual equipment, and foreign-language materials. Materials for the blind and handicapped in the form of talking books and cassettes can be arranged through the library. The library has large print materials as part of its book and magazine collections. The library will cooperate with local educational institutions: | |
