For School Success, Don't Coddle Your Kids A Press Release from Portico Books http://www.grammarandmore.com/
Parents want their children to succeed in school. However, sometimes their best intentions are misguided. Attempts to provide children with a wonderful life can, in fact, increase the stress of the entire family.
"Just getting children to school well rested and well fed can be challenging," says Fran Santoro Hamilton, author of Hands-On English . Hamilton's advice extends well beyond these basics, however. Her suggestions and information about her book, which provides tips for efficient study as well as quick access to English fundamentals, are available at: http://www.GrammarAndMore.com
"One of parents' most common mistakes," Hamilton says, "is to want to make everything easy for their children. It's painful for parents to see their children struggle. If children never do anything difficult, however, they never learn that they can successfully meet a

homework must be done in order to ensure Parents should help a student with revision skillabilities sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, correct grammar
http://student.stcatherineschool.org/6shpolic.htm
HOMEWORK POLICY A NOTE TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS Dear Parents and Students, trying to do the assignment, but makes the teacher aware that the student needs help. The student should bring in his/her attempts to do the work, so the teacher can determine where the problem lies. Sixth graders should spend at least one and a half to two hours a day on homework; seventh graders , two to two and a half; and eighth graders , two and a half to three hours. Remember that this includes study and reading time as well as written work. Weekends might be a good time to work on research and long term projects, especially since weekdays are so often full with sports and other activities. ABSENSES ARE NOT AN EXCUSE . Call the school for the assignment or call another student. Students should have a "study buddy" that they can rely on for assignments or even help with homework. Short bursts of study with short breaks in between have proven to be more effective. NO TIME IS ALLOWED IN SCHOOL FOR HOMEWORK, and if a rainy day recess is used, it is only for a very small portion of the total time that should be spent on the work. Studying takes concentration and the job of student doesn't end after five school hours. THE LANGUAGE ARTS PROGRAM language leads to success on many levels.

This months homework is a requirement for all students. This month, students will be creating a dictionary with Grade 3 testing words and phrases. This is to help students learn the key words of the test and to become familiar with test language. We hope that this will help students better understand the expectations of each question as well as boost their confidence with test taking skills. Students must choose 40 words to include in their dictionary. Two words should be completed on each page and both sides of the page should be use. With each word should be a dictionary definition, their own version of the definition and a picture (if possible).

Downloads: January 7, 2003 Dear Parents,
I hope you had a very restful and peaceful winter break. I want to thank all of you for sending in your $100.00 so that we can reserve our space for the Gold Country Prospecting Trip coming May 18, 19 and 20th. This month in Science the students are continuing their study of electrical circuits. Today we discussed possible projects that they can do with a partner that demonstrates their knowledge and understanding about electrons and electrical energy. I would like them to start thinking this week about what Electrical Experiment they would like to test. They will need to perform this experiment in class. A one page to two-page write-up with a drawing of the demonstration is also required. More about the requirements, due date and a rubric will be coming home soon. Please help your child find quiet time each night to read a good book. I have tons of great reading books in my room that they can check out. There are so many good books to read, and I want them to enjoy reading. Our local library and the Book Loft in Solvang also have excellent books to read. I want my students to enjoy reading and turn off the TV. Books are so awesome and fill the mind with knowledge.
