Things to Consider Before Buying a Burmese Python
Burmese pythons are so small and cute as hatchlings, that many people buying them get in over their heads quickly. It is hard to understand how large of a commitment owning one of these animals can be. From the two foot hatchling, to a fourteen foot adult that requires two people to handle and defecates like a goat - is a large difference, all in a couple of years. I just want my buyers to realize these snakes get big, you will have to feed them rabbits, and house them in almost room-sized enclosures.
There are other snakes that don't grow quite as large, and are therefore easier to handle and keep as adults. However, burmese pythons have many pros to weigh with the obvious cons. They grow quickly to large impressive sizes, these albinos are among the most beautiful snakes in the world, and burmese are arguably the most gentle personality.
Before purchasing a top-breed dog, most people analyze their lifestyle to see how the new member of the family will fit in, before they buy the animal. How much free time do you have, how willing are you to spend $1000 on the proper enclosure, are you able to provide top quality food for it - often!... These are the things one should think about if one intends to be a responsible snake owner."

Large constrictors have killed people on rare occasions. The details of the deaths generally remain unknown. After all, the only witnesses are the victim and the snake. Ramona and Desmond Morris recount one exception to this in their book, Men and Snakes (1965, p. 116). A large python encountered a passed-out drunk and began to eat his left leg. It got as far as his torso and then simply stopped. When he woke up in the morning, he called for help and the snake was removed from his leg. Unfortunately, the leg was already partially digested and had to be amputated. Anything’s possible, but most herpetologists discount these sorts of stories as tall tales. About eight more or less confirmed cases of death by constrictor have occurred in North America in the past twenty or so years. Philippe de Vosjoli (1993) reviews the potential danger of and precautions to be taken with large boas and pythons in The Vivarium Reticulated, Burmese, and African rock pythons primarily are responsible for human deaths from constrictors.

    Ball Python or Royal Python
    Python regius
    Family: Boidae Description:
The ball python, is also know as the royal python. The name, ball python, is derived from the snakes tendency to curl up in a tight ball as a defensive behavior. This is a very popular constrictor due to its' small size, reasonable price, and docility. This snake almost never bites! They can be kept by an advanced beginner and they can live 20 to 30 years in captivity. The ball python will grow to between three and five feet (.91 to 1.27 m) They have a robust body with a short tail. Their natural coloring is a dark brown background, broken with irregular cream colored or yellowish buff patches. There are many unusual color and pattern variations. Being a wide bodied snake, they use rectilinear movement to crawl forward in a perfectly straight line. This is where they press sections of their body into the ground and then use their muscles to propel them forward. Feeding:
They are a constrictor and their diet consists of small rodents such as mice and small rats. They are nocturnal, so feed at night. Feed once or twice a week, depending on the size of the food and the size of the snake. As you get to know your snake, you'll learn what its feeding needs are. They will often refuse food if they are handled excessively or when their habitat changes. They will need time to get comfortable in new surroundings. Fresh water in a good size water dish should always be available. Environment:

All kinds, and it doesn't matter to me that most of civilization doesn't understand this. There is one thing, we'd like you to put aside any fears, doubts, and misconceptions of snakes. Please read the information contained in our site. It's a NO BULL kind of site. We'll tell it how it is even if you're not ready to hear it. The first "rescue" was/is a female Burmese python. I happened to come across her in a pet store. Normally this isn't a bad thing but when the python was just under SEVEN feet long being housed in a 20 gallon show aquqrium somethings wrong! I decided I had to get her out of the conditions she was in. I found the person who'd consigned her, paid him to get her out of the store, and brought her home that day. This Burmese Python, affectionately named MisFortune, has been living with our family. The picture below is of a friend (she stands 5'5") with MisFortune and who is now just shy of 14 feet in length and weighs approximately 70-75 pounds.

      "a decent caresheet"

The Royal (or Ball) Python ( Python Regius ) is a short (around 1.5m), squat and rather beautiful snake. It comes from Central and West Africa where it is exported in huge numbers to supply the pet market in the US and Europe. Fortunately the snake is gradually being bred in larger numbers in captivity.
Being quite compact and habitually using underground burrows, these snake are best housed in a 20 gal aquarium or equivalent. A hidebox, and a water bowl should be provided, and a few good stout branches. A well fitting hood is a necessity since royals are very strong and are notorious for escaping. Don't try using sticky tape to hold the hood on. If the snake gets entangled you might be faced with a hefty vets bill to get it free again. Royals require a temperature gradient (a warm end and a hot end). The hot end should be in the high 80's F. A drop of a 5-10F at night would be ideal.
The best Royal Python is one that has been captive bred (CB). These snakes will thrive better, eat better, and be less prone to infection and infestation with parasites. Wild caught pythons are often cheaper, but since they will require inspection by a vet, buying one is false economy.

    - SPECIES SHOWCASE - The Ball Python (Python regius)
The Ball Python is one of the most popular "pet shop" snakes, and frequently can be found even in stores which only sell a handful of herps. In the past, most "Royal" Pythons found in such pet shops were imported adults, and these did not always make the best pets. Imported specimens are frequently infested with parasites (one tell-tale sign of an imported python is small, brown, ticks embedded in the snake's scales), and often do not feed well in captivity. However, over the past few years a number of herpetoculturists have started to seriously work with this species, and captive-born and captive-bred juveniles are easy to find. These acclimate to captivity within a short period of time, and are highly recommended snakes for beginners.
NATIVE RANGE: western Africa, especially in the rain forests from Ghana to Cameroon
    HABITAT: savannahs and forests
ADULT LENGTH: four to six feet, this is a stout, full-bodied snake
TEMPERATURE: Ball Pythons need an undertank heater or basking spot near the hide box (but not right over it), and the cage temperature should stay at 77-90F during the day. You can turn off the basking light and drop the temperature to 68-75F at night. These animals are active at night, so no special lighting is required.
