Algebra 9- Quadratic Equations And Projectiles Playing with my son’s toy rocket, I came up with the equation h = -6t2 + 24t + 1 where h describes the height of the foam rocket above the ground after t seconds. a.) From the equation, can you determine what the height of the rocket is before it is shot off? b.) Graph the equation on your calculator. Use a window of x-min = 0, x-max = 6, y-min = 0, and y-max = 40. c.) Using your trace key, find a close approximation for the maximum height of the foam rocket. d.) Using your trace key, find a close approximation for how long the rocket is in the air until it hits the ground. When hitting a ball it reaches its maximum height at 3 seconds at a height of 94 feet. At 2 seconds, the ball is 70 feet above the ground. What must be the height of the ball at 4 seconds? Consider the graph below of a bullet shot out of a gun. b.) How high is the bullet at .4 seconds? d.) At about what time is the bullet 1500 meters in the air?

Suggested Algebra II Course Guidelines Last updated on Friday, January 17, 2003
These guidelines for an Algebra II curriculum are intended to promote the learning of mathematics by all students and prepare them for further study in mathematics and/or using mathematics appropriately in the workplace. Instruction should provide opportunities for learning new mathematics through the exploration of rich problem-solving situations. Students should use various types of reasoning, be able to communicate their thinking to others using a variety of representations, and recognize and use connections within and outside mathematics. Technology should be used as a tool to help all students understand mathematics more deeply and prepare them for the demands of an increasingly technological society. The sections and topics in these guidelines are not necessarily sequential. They may be reorganized by individual teachers or schools.
