In The Early Days
In the early days, rafting was novel and operations were simple. Some outfitters operated out of tents or small trailers near the put-in sites along the New, Gauley and Cheat rivers. Amenities were nonexistent. Guests paid for their trips, put on their safety gear and hit the rivers for a half day or full day of rafting. When the fun was over, many traveled home that evening or to hotels miles away from the rafting area. Regardless, the adventurers kept coming back. They told others of their whitewater experiences, and when they returned they brought those friends with them. The river outfitters started to look to the future; these young entrepreneurs began to think about ways to improve the whitewater experience, offer guest services and take responsible stock of their businesses in the mountains of West Virginia. More Ways to Enjoy the Rivers
Today, rafters can select from first-class amenities and numerous rafting options. Rafting outfitters offer mild-to-wild trips that appeal to anyone who wants to enjoy the beauty of the West Virginia hills from the vantage point of the rivers. Those options include heritage excursions featuring historic commentary and views of mining ghost towns, nature trips focusing on the flora and fauna of the area, fish-and-float tours and adventure rides.

Rogue Wilderness offers whitewater rafting trips on Oregon's "wild and scenic" Rogue River. The river is divided into two general areas; the "Recreation Section" and the 40 mile long "Wild Section" canyon. Below you will find information on the various trips we offer in each area.
Wild Section Trips - Multiple Day
The canyons charm lies in its thrilling whitewater stretches, alternated with mild riffles, placid pools, and narrow canyons edged by towering cliffs. The old growth Douglas fir forest, mixed with leafy trees, creates a perfect river bank habitat for the abundant wildlife of the Rogue River Canyon. Otter, beaver, deer, Roosevelt elk, black bear, cougars, osprey, bald eagles, mallards, wood ducks, wild turkeys, and many others flourish in the wilderness river canyon. Oar rafts, paddle rafts, and inflatable kayaks are all available on our Wild Section Trips. The whitewater on the Wild Section is rated class III - IV in the canyon with two world famous Class IV+ rapids: Blossom Bar Rapid and Mule Creek Canyon. Duration of the trips is from two to four days and we cover nearly 40 miles by river. Participants may choose to camp out under the stars, stay in a historic wilderness lodges, or combine one night of camping with one or two nights of lodging. For detailed information on trip prices and dates click on "Wild Section Trips" above.

Outdoor Sports canoeing kayaking sea-kayaking fishing rock climbing horse-back riding golfing playing tennis skiing snow boarding camping white-water rafting nature walking Canoeing
Canoeing is one of handy outdoor sport. Originally, it's made of a carving log for hunting by aboriginal peoples. Floating a canoe on numberless lakes under the blue sky must be fantastic. Let's go to canoeing and refreshing oneself. Kayaking
A kayak is quite similar to a canoe as a narrow boat moved by paddles. Compare to canoeing, kayaking requires high technique. As a result, kayaking is more exciting and thrilling than canoeing. Canoeing is usually placed on lakes. However, rivers are more popular for kayaking. Another, kayaks are paddled by on after the other. By contrast, canoes are paddled only one side. Sea-kayaking
As describing name, sea-kayaking is placed on the sea. Sea-kayaking is more similar to canoeing on lakes than kayaking on rivers. But kayaks can easily overturning by waves. There is a chance to see and meet sea mammals on West Coast in North America. I recommend you try to sea-kayaking if you have a chance to go there. Joining tour is easy way to try it.

Some preplanning is needed; a launch permit must be obtained from Ohiopyle State Park for rafting on weekends and holidays. This can be reserved over the phone by calling the Park at 888-PA-PARKS. These permits are in demand, so please call soon. Once you've reserved your permit (if needed), call our office to arrange the rental of your equipment. The day of your trip you will need two vehicles to run your river shuttle. You will need to take them both to the take-out parking area (Old Mitchell parking lot). Leave one there because this will be needed to bring yourselves back to Ohiopyle after your rafting trip. Then come back to Ohiopyle in the other vehicle. This is about 10 miles and will take about a half hour. Bus transportation is available for large groups; call our office for details. A partial shuttle is provided from the actual river take-out to the parking area (Old Mitchell parking lot) where you left your vehicle the morning of your trip. This is mandatory and your token must be purchased at the put-in, from the State Park.
