The college is situated on a 105 acre campus in the city of Providence Rhode Island . It enjoys the advantages of an atmosphere far removed from the traffic and commerce of the metropolitan area, but it also provides easy access to the many cultural attractions of a city which is not only the capital of an historic state but also the center of a variety of institutions of higher learning. Objectives
The primary objective of Providence College is the intellectual and spiritual development of its students through the disciplines of the sciences and the humanities. The liberal education which the college offers presents its students with opportunities to advance their ability to formulate their thoughts and communicate them to others; to discover the facts about themselves and their environment; to evaluate their varied experiences, and to achieve insight into the past, present, and future of civilization. Just as the college is committed to the intellectual development of its students, so it is also concerned with equipping them to become intelligent, productive, and responsible citizens of a democratic society. To this end, it not only endeavors to develop the students’ capacities for disciplined thinking and critical exactness, but it also affords them opportunities for healthy physical development and a wide range of activities in which to gain a mature sense of social responsibility.

The residency program allows a comprehensive ambulatory experience to begin in the first year, and uses a multidisciplinary faculty to integrate the social and behavioral sciences, as well as medical ethics, into the fabric of postgraduate medical education. The residency is based in the Rhode Island Hospital division of general internal medicine, which is the largest division in the department of medicine. Program residents have the opportunity to develop close working relationships with division faculty who are leaders in primary care education, research and clinical practice. Throughout their training, residents receive regular evaluation and feedback, career guidance, and have an opportunity to contribute new and innovative ideas in a highly receptive atmosphere.

The Benefits of Windows 2000 Security Features
The 8,600-student College has 200 desktops mostly spread across five computer labs in four buildings, plus another 40 instructor desktops in "electronic classrooms" and assigned to faculty members and IT staffers. Before the migration, which began last fall, security concerns were very real. With Windows 95/98 desktops in a Windows NT Server environment, students could escape the sign-on dialog box and enter the desktop. Once there, and with access to configuration and display options, students could change wallpaper, display pornography, download unauthorized software from the Internet, delete necessary files and programs, and monopolize machines with computer games, according to technical support specialist Maureen Tobin. "At one point, I was keying in more than 250 .exe, .bat and .hlp files to facilitate application setups," recalls Tobin. "I finally gave up because the registry just wasn't big enough."
