Clay Rubber Stamping Page Clay Stamping is a very easy project for children of all ages. Especially the very young. Any rubber stamp can be used on Polymer clay to make a project look more interesting. CLAY STAMPED PINS I recently taught a class of 3 and 4 year olds. We made pins using bright colored Sculpey Clay and added a glow in the dark clay border.
Give each child a piece of wax paper to work on for a clean surface. Also wash their hands before and after project to keep the project clean and to keep the chemicals off their hands afterwards. The children first softened the Sculpey by playing with it for awhile, keeping it on the wax surface. I gave each a small amount of sculpey. (about 1/4 and ounce of each color.) I try with preschoolers to only give one color at a time and repeat instructions often when they have more than one color. Otherwise they tend to put the colors together too soon and you end up with gray etc...

by Ruthann Logsdon Zaroff
© 2000, Mirkwood Designs Conception This is both the easiest and the hardest part of designing a stamp. Basically, I think of an image for a rubber stamp—sometimes the images come to me in dreams, and this has made for many sleepless nights! I draw the image either by hand or on computer. Sometimes I use art that is in the Public Domain, such as my Alice in Wonderland stamps. If necessary, I scan the image into my computer in full color using 600 DPI resolution. This creates a huge file that I must manipulate, sometimes pixel by pixel, to end up with a very clean black and white image. I use Paint Shop Pro 7 for this process. If I create a computer graphic, I use Paint Shop Pro 7 or Microsoft PowerPoint, depending on what I am creating—sometimes a combination of both. I usually use a Wacom Graphire drawing tablet in place of a mouse. I periodically print my images to get an idea of the finished look, and to determine the size of the finished stamp. When I am pleased with the image, I create a master.

pencil
1. Cut potatoes in half or thirds.
2. Draw desired design onto potato with the pencil. 3. Young children can carve their whole design with the pencil but if more detail is preferred, an adult needs to cut around the pencil outline. 4. Place paint in tray or paper plate in a thin layer. 5. Press potato design into paint and firmly press onto paper for impression. Don't have Paint Coloring with marker onto the potato works as well although it produces a lighter effect. Mom's Tip: Practice a couple of times to get the feel for how much paint you want on your print. To accomplish a textured effect try letting layers dry and adding prints on top in different colors.

The Stamp Affair Story In November of 1990, Steve and Elona Hamilton stumbled along an ad for used rubber stamp equipment in a local newspaper. Out of sheer curiosity, they contacted the seller and met with him. What they found was a very small heated press and lots (thousands) of very tiny little metal letters that were assembled together to make name and address stamps. Although it was a very lengthy, time consuming process, it intrigued Steve and Elona enough to purchase the equipment for $425.00. Steve made several telephone calls to local printers and office supply stores inquiring about their demand for custom stamps. To his surprise they all sold many stamps every week, but lacked the quick service needed to make customers happy. Elona and Steve quickly developed a plan to provide the stores with a quality stamp at a competitive price, but with 24 hour service! Elona set out to begin making stamps on what was intended to be a part time business to supplement their income while she stayed home to raise their children.

http://users.lmi.net/~drewid/making_stamps.htm
Q: Does anyone know how to make stamps for ceramic?
A: If you are talking about a rubber stamp, the process involves making a photoetched
metal plate from the line-art original, then vulcanizing rubber into the plate, peeling it off, and mounting it to a piece of wood.
If you don't have access to a vulcanizing press, (although custom rubber stamp service isn't
too hard to find most places) you can use RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) rubber.
This usually consists of two liquid parts which are mixed together. It will set without heat or pressure. This is good for more dimensional contoured impressions; the etched stamps give a
fixed depth.
However, plaster works better than rubber for pressing into clay. The easiest way to make a
plaster stamp is to cast a small piece of plaster, and when it has set to scratch a design
(in reverse) into its flat surface. The impression will show a raised line where the incised line
was. For more dimensional stamps, roll out a piece of clay, impress a design into it, then cast plaster over that. This will yield a stamp that will replicate the look of the original clay impression.

Rubber Stamp for Sprawl
To: Mayor Sue Bauman and the Madison Common Council From: The Bicycle Transportation Alliance of Dane County Subject: The Rubber Stamp for Sprawl - Bike Path Assualts Yet Another Cost of Madison's Sprawl September 28, 2001 Dear Mayor Bauman and City Council Members, The first item on Tuesday's Common Council Agenda (9/25/01) was the resolution commending the Schenk-Atwood-Starkweather-Yahara neighborhood and the Madison Police Department for making the bike path safe after a series of assaults. We agree that the people of the neighborhood deserve recognition for this. We are now asking why so many people had to go down. During the period of the assaults, we asked city officials what was being done to put a stop to these acts of violence in our otherwise peaceful neighborhood. After much dialogue, we were finally told that the path could never be safe; that the city had sprawled so much that there weren't enough resources to patrol both our neighborhood and the far flung cul-de-sacs, strip malls, and oceanic parking lots of suburbia. With the city having clearly cut the neighborhood adrift in a sea of sprawl, the people acted on their own. And it is the people and the people alone who should have been commended in this resolution. Without the action of the people, the prediction of a perpetually dangerous path would have come to pass. Once again, our reasonably scaled neighborhoods are paying for sprawl. We are paying for it by seeing resources stagnate and get slashed for our most basic services - parks, police, transit, etc. - in order to spend tens of millions on municipal freeways and sprawl at the periphery.
