Saskatchewan Lotteries The Benefits of Saskatchewan Lotteries The proceeds from Saskatchewan Lotteries benefit more than 12,000 sport, culture and recreation organizations and over 800 communities. These organizations provide programs that are far-reaching and encompass people of every age and ability. The programs range from boy scouts and drama clubs to recreation centres and basketball tournaments. Saskatchewan Lotteries roots stretch back to 1974, when the provincial government established its legislative and policy framework. Sask Sport Inc., a non-profit federation of provincial sport governing bodies, operates the Saskatchewan Lotteries system at an arms-length basis to government on behalf of the sport, culture and recreation community. Saskatchewan Lotteries is guided by a volunteer board of directors and a vast network of volunteers. The net profits from lottery sales are distributed by the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation. First to be paid are the contractual obligations such as the Federal/Provincial Lottery Agreement Payment, former lottery ticket distributors, the Exhibition Associations Payment, and the License Fee Payment to the Provincial Government's General Revenue Fund. This fund is used to support many vital government programs including education and healthcare. These payments account for approximately 54% of the net profits. After these obligations, the remaining 46% of the profits are distributed to sport, culture, and recreation organizations throughout Saskatchewan.

A number of community organizations run by Métis citizens have undertaken festivals and days of celebration across the province. The Prince Albert Métis Fall Festival , the Métis Spring Fest in Saskatoon, Métis Days at St. Victoire by Assiniboia, Lebret Days; Crescent Lake are but a few examples of these activities. In northwest Saskatchewan community members gather for Palmbere Days held each year at Palmbere Lake. The Métis Nation - Saskatchewan proudly hosts Back to Batoche Days each year in July. These celebrations, along with events across the Homeland remind us of the rich cultural traditions we have inherited. We encourage you to participate wherever possible and to show support to the many volunteers that make these celebrations possible. At this point in time, many of the artifacts and collections of art work and tools are held in various museums across the homeland and elsewhere. The MNS hopes to develop a specific archives and museum facility in the province where families can donate articles to the Metis Nation for safekeeping for generations to come. Michif is the official language of the Métis Nation although many of our people speak other Aboriginal languages such as Cree, Dene and Saulteaux. This committee is charged with the responsibility for developing strategies and plans for the maintenance and restoration of the Michif language. The Gabriel Dumont Institute has begun this work with a series of children's books and tapes, which can be ordered through the Institution's publication services. The federal government has a four-year Aboriginal languages program that throughout the Métis National Council the Métis were able to secure 10% for the preservation and enhancement of the Michif language. The MNS is currently in year three of the four-year program. Michif workshops were held in various locations throughout the province, in addition to several national ones.

For the past twenty-five years, this non-profit corporation delivered services to support First Nations education, art and cultures, as well as to broaden the cultural awareness of First Nations people. The Center continues to work to achieve this mandate of providing quality and professional services to First Nations communities. The new era for the SICC is an introduction of a Keeping House that will display paintings and artifacts from our First Nations people.
