Come dance with us! Scottish country dances are exciting jigs and reels and elegant strathspeys, the historic social dances of Scotland. For centuries they were enjoyed both at court and in the countryside, and today they are danced in hundreds of RSCDS groups throughout the world. Done in sets of three or four couples, Scottish country dances are truly "social." Our classes offer a friendly, helpful program in which to learn them. You need not come with a partner.

Recent Changes:
  • Unfortunately our April workshop has been canceled. But the dance party is still in the evening April 5. Beware of virus - the webmaster e-mail has been receiving a lot of copies of the "W32.Yaha.K@mm" e-mail worm lately. This site and the webmaster e-mail do not pass it along, but the fact that I am getting these copies suggests that some users of this website have infected machines. (The e-mail containing the worm varies, but usually purports to be a screen saver or a virus scaner fix.) Further information on this worm, and detection/removal instructions are available from McAfee or Symantec May Ball Program change - I'll Mak Ye Fain to Follow Me is being replaced by The Happy Meeting.

Welcome!
This dance index has been created for Scottish Country Dancers the world round. This covers ONLY Scottish country dances that are published on the World Wide Web and that I know about. The dance instructions accessed through this index are made available by a number of sites around the world.
Technical caveat: The Searcher/Sorter does not work for everyone. It uses Frames and JavaScript and a data-reading Java applet. If your browser does not support these features or if you are behind a firewall that defeats the function of the applet, you can use the static index pages, which unfortunately do not support searching. You can also download the index to circumvent firewall problems

The Frankfurt Scottish Country Dance Club
(Auch in Deutsch The Frankfurt Scottish Country Dance Club was established more than 30 years ago and is among the oldest SCD groups in Germany (check out the RSCDS 75th anniversary booklet if you don't believe me!). We are part of the Frankfurter Tanzkreis , an amalgamation of various dance groups in the city covering all kinds of dancing from folk dancing to ballroom dancing. Our group is also affiliated with the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society . We are about 35 people of all ages and levels of experience, of whom about 15-20 turn up regularly. Since Frankfurt is a fairly international town with a busy airport, folks from abroad often show up if they're passing through and can find the time. Dancing in Frankfurt is mostly social, with occasional informal demonstrations thrown in as opportunity presents itself. Our major event is the traditional Spring Ball which takes place every year in late April or early May. The 31st Spring Ball will take place on 1 May 1999. Some of us also like to go to week-end workshops and balls all over Germany. Scottish country dancing really gets you out and about and you will meet nice people everywhere!
