In Sweden, Norway Denmark and Finland all wrecks older than 100 years are legally protected – you may dive on them but not touch anything. In Finland you must also notify the coast guard before a wreck dive. On the Finnish province island Åland, it is generally forbidden to dive anywhere, except for a few places assigned by licensed dive centres. For scuba diving, both DIN (200 and 300 bar) and Yoke (200 bar) connectors are used. Here is more scuba diving info for the Nordic region:

Scuba diving is a fascinating and rewarding activity and is one of the few sports that you can enjoy from your young teen years right through to the time that your grandchildren willingly help you back on the boat. If you have the required skills, know your limitations and act responsibly, you will derive the greatest satisfaction imaginable out of a most enjoyable activity. Just being under the sea is pleasure in itself, it's beauty is beyond description, its life remarkable in diversity. There is the opportunity to extend the pleasure into underwater photography, the marine sciences, wrecks and maritime archaeology, cave diving, and deep technical diving, all gaining knowledge and understanding of the marine environment.
THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER TRAINING - YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT
Proper training is paramount to the enjoyment of recreational scuba diving. Proper training is also vital to your safety. Australia has a very high standard of diver training and arguably leads the world in scuba instruction and recreational scuba diver skills. Whatever you do, adhere to the very important rules below. It is your safety and future life-time enjoyment that is at stake.

    Calcareous Tubeworms
(I think, I'm not a marine biologist!) Diving is a way of life to many. When asked what is the reason I dive, the only answer I can give is that the sea holds wondrous sights that few human eyes have seen. It is truly the last human frontier. There is so much down there that we don't know about. There is so much history that is preserved down there. It is the only place on earth where a human can be almost free of the bonds of gravity. I have tried a wide variety diving profiles from simple, shallow training dives to deep decompression dives. I think that my favorite kinds of dives are dives on wrecks and deep dives off of walls. Granted the life below 100 feet is not as abundant as it is in the 60 to 100 foot depth range but the life deep down are often rarer and bigger than the shallower ranges. Technical Diving With the advent of nitrox and technical diving equipment, it has become possible for the adventurous diver to more safely perform recreational and decompression dives. This new technology though has brought with it other concerns that have made extensive training, lots of practice and serious planning an integral part of using the technology as safely as possible.

When you have your PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), TDI (Technical Diving International), or NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors) scuba diving certification, you can dive almost anywhere in the world. http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/link=/earth/Water/scuba.html&edu=high
    Open-Circuit Scuba
Scuba stands for self-contained, underwater breathing apparatus. It means that scuba divers carry all of the breathing medium they need with them for the duration they are underwater. Open-Circuit scuba may be most easily understood by contrasting it to other types of scuba diving. In Closed-Circuit scuba there is a total recirculation of the gas supplied to the diver. In Semi-Closed Circuit scuba, there is partial recirculation of gas supplied to the diver. In contrast, the gas supplied during Open-Circuit scuba is not recycled at all. When a diver breathes out, the exhalation goes out to the surrounding water instead of being recirculated somehow. In Closed-Circuit scuba, oxygen and mixed gas are used as the gas supply for the diver. In Semi-Closed Circuit scuba, mixed gas is used as the gas supply. In contrast, Open-Circuit scuba uses mixed gas and air as the gas supplies, with air being the main gas supply for Open-Circuit scuba divers. Open-Circuit scuba is the most widely practiced type of diving. Recreational divers definitely tend towards this type of scuba, but scientific, military and public safety divers use it regularly too. The recreational diving community likely tends towards Open-Circuit scuba because it is the simplest, most portable and most inexpensive type of scuba diving. Training for people to become Open-Circuit scuba divers is available around the world. Open-Circuit scuba does have its disadvantages though. Because none of the gas supply is recirculated, this type of scuba is inefficient. Going for long or deep dives may require the carrying of many gas cylinders to be able to support a diver for a long duration. This not only makes the diver bulky, but the diver experiences a drastic change in

The dive season generally starts around March and ends around October. It is possible to dive outside of this, but because of adverse weather and sea conditions, not everyone find it appealing. The waters around Ireland vary in visibility and conditions and should provide something to suit all individual requirements. Ireland is small in size and it is relatively easy to travel from one part of the country to another, giving divers the opportunity to travel across the country for one or more day's diving. Many of the Dive Centres in Ireland cater for package deals to suit the overseas visitor, particularly those from the UK, where a weeks diving, accomodation and car ferry ticket to Ireland work out very reasonable indeed. There is a wealth of knowledge about many sites around Ireland derived from earlier divers, where to go, what to see and what to do. Much of this information has been passed on by word of mouth, and most of the dive centres should be able to help with any queries.
