Backgrounder Nunavut Crime Prevention Initiatives National Strategy on Community Safety and Crime Prevention The Safer Communities Initiative, administered by the National Crime Prevention Centre (NCPC), was launched in June 1998 as part of the Government of Canada's National Strategy on Community Safety and Crime Prevention. The National Strategy is aimed at developing community-based responses to crime, with a particular emphasis on children and youth, Aboriginal people, and women. Through the National Strategy, the Government of Canada is working with communities across Canada to develop programs and partnerships that will help prevent crime. The Safer Communities Initiative is comprised of four funding programs: the Crime Prevention Investment Fund, the Crime Prevention Partnership Program, the Community Mobilization Program and the Business Action Program on Crime Prevention. Crime prevention projects funded under the National Strategy deal with a broad range of risk factors across communities that contribute to crime and victimization, including family violence, poor parenting, social isolation, and drug and alcohol abuse. These initiatives are intended to remove these personal, social and economic factors that can lead some individuals to become involved in criminal acts as offenders or victims. Crime Prevention Partnership Program The Crime Prevention Partnership Program supports the involvement of organizations that can contribute to community crime prevention activities through the development of information, tools and resources that facilitate community participation in all phases of crime prevention. The Government of Canada will award funding under this program to the following group:

Providence, RI - Roger Williams Park Zoo will be a winter wonderland (with or without snow!) during school vacation week, February 18th through the 22nd, when the zoo presents "Make Tracks to the Zoo," a program that celebrates winter and cures cabin fever by getting kids and their parents outside to participate in a host of seasonal activities.
On the evening of February 21st, the zoo is proud to present a lecture by Noel Rowe, a Charlestown native and Director of Primate Conservation Inc. "Make Tracks to the Zoo" takes place daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes a variety of fun and educational activities.
Visitors can learn how to identify the tracks left by winter wanderers through their own back yards at the "Fancy Feet" biofacts station, which showcases a variety of animal prints made in plaster molds and castings, as well as pictures of animal tracks commonly found in our area.
