    What Causes Skin Cancer?
    Sunburn and Sunlight
Very simply, sunburn and UV light can damage your skin, and this damage can lead to skin cancer. There are of course other determining factors, including your heredity and the environment you live in. However, both the total amount of sun received over the years, and overexposure resulting in sunburn can cause skin cancer. Most people receive 80% of their lifetime exposure to the sun by 18 years of age. The message to parents from this is to

Skin Cancer Treatment and Prevention Based on Pancreatin Enzymes
This web site presents skin cancer treatment and prevention information to enable natural healing of squamous or basal cell carcinoma. Practical strategies for skin cancer prevention and treatment based on enhancing the body's natural defenses are provided, including descriptions of topical home remedies.
Recurring problems with basal and squamous cell carcinoma are common because traditional treatment methods focus only on removing the skin cancer symptoms (the lesions). A frustrating cycle of lesions and surgeries can result from regarding skin cancer as a skin problem instead of a cancer problem. This alternative approach identifies several important underlying causes of squamous or basal cell carcinoma beyond excessive sun exposure. Understanding and targeting the causes and mechanisms of skin cancer can help to break this cycle through changes in lifestyle, diet, cosmetics, and nutritional supplements. The skin cancer treatment and prevention strategies are based on my personal healing experiences, concepts presented in the book 'One Answer to Cancer' by Dr. William Kelley, and published research findings. According to the book, three factors are necessary for a cancer to exist. The most familiar of these factors is cell damage, often caused by sun exposure in the case of skin cancer. Usually this is the only factor considered in taking steps to prevent cancers. Despite prior cell damage, skin cancer does not have to be inevitable or unstoppable.

About Basal Cell Carcinoma
The Most Common Skin Cancer
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer, affecting 800,000 Americans each year. In fact, it is the most common of all cancers. One out of every three new cancers is a skin cancer, and the vast majority are basal cell carcinomas, often referred to by the abbreviation, BCC. These cancers arise in the basal cells, which are at the bottom of the epidermis (outer skin layer). Until recently, those most often affected were older people, particularly men who had worked outdoors. Although the number of new cases has increased sharply each year in the last few decades, the average age of onset of the disease has steadily decreased. More women are getting BCCs than in the past; nonetheless, men still outnumber them greatly.

Melanoma and Carcinoma Skin Cancer
Melanoma. There is a lot of negative emotion connected with that word. It's a very frightening word; one you hope you never have to hear associated with you or your loved ones. But what is Melanoma? This website was created to help answer that question, and provide useful information about preventing and detecting Melanoma and other types of skin cancer. What is Skin Cancer?
Skin cancer is basically when cancer cells appear in the outer layers of your skin. Cancer is an unrestricted and abnormal growth of cells that damage and destroy the surrounding tissue. Once skin cancer is formed on a part of a body, it can spread to other parts of the body through a process called metastasis. Non-Melanoma Skin Cancers
There are many types of skin cancers that can pose a danger to your health and appearance. Basal Cell Skin Cancer is the most common, appearing as a small, smooth, shiny, raised bump. Sometimes it looks like a scar with a firm texture. It generally appears on skin that has had excessive exposure to sunlight. Another common type of Non-Melanoma skin cancer is Squamous Cell Carcinoma . It can appear as a red bump that is firm to the touch. Often it bleeds, or becomes scaly or crusty. These cancers can look like sores that never heal. Squamous Cell Carcinoma can be more dangerous that Basal Cell Cancers because it has a habit of spreading to nearby lymph nodes.

Understanding cancer of the skin From the CancerBACUP booklet series Booklet revised: June 2002 Introduction This booklet has been written to help you understand more about cancer of the skin. It deals with the two common types of skin cancer known as basal cell carcinoma (also called rodent ulcer), and squamous cell carcinoma. We hope this booklet answers the main questions you may have about their diagnosis and treatment. The other main form of skin cancer is malignant melanoma, which is rarer than the two common forms described in this booklet. CancerBACUP's booklet Understanding malignant melanoma gives more detailed information about this type of cancer.

The Skin Cancer Resources Directory Home Cancer Types Skin Cancer Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer and accounts for half of all new cancers in Western populations. It occurs more often in people with light coloured skin who have had a high exposure to sunlight. The two most frequent types of skin cancer are Basal Cell Carcinomas and Squamous Cell Carcinoma (often grouped under "non-melanoma skin cancer"). The third most frequent skin cancer is Melanoma, this is a malignancy of the cells which give the skin it's colour (melanocytes). In addition there are a number of other, less common cancers starting in the skin including Merkel cell tumours, cutaneous lymphomas, and sarcomas (see the pages on sarcoma and lymphoma in this guide).
