February 7, 2003
- Yeah, yeahI'm back after a brief break from the site. Unfortunately, I return as the bearer of bad tidings for those fans looking forward to a new installment in the Space Quest series. Recently, Escape Factory (the developers of the rumored SQ project) posted this message at their website : "The not-yet-announced project was cancelled after just over a year of development for a variety of reasons. The team is obviously disappointed, but we understand the decision. We have terminated the relationship with our publisher amicably, and have once again begun the process of talking to other publishers about new projects, this time with a bigger and more experienced team." Sources suggest that the "not-yet-announced project" mentioned above was indeed a new game in the Space Quest series. By my count, that makes Roger Wilco fans 0-2 when it comes to Space Quest 7. I hope to check back at some point in the next couple of days with an editorial regarding my thoughts on the past year of Space Quest rumors and their impact on the fan community. Meanwhile, let's hope the

LOOKING UP July 24: Station Sightings Thanks to a new NASA web site, stargazers can track the progress of the growing International Space Station from their own backyards. Because it reflects sunlight down to Earth, the ISS often looks like a slow-moving star as it crosses the sky. It can even appear as bright as the star Sirius if you know when and where to look. GLOBAL WARMING July 21: Contrary Thermometers Scientists are working to understand why the lower atmosphere isn't heating up as fast as some global warming models predict. The atmosphere appears to be more complex than computer simulations that researchers use to understand our planet's climate.

FULL STORY Far-flung supernovae shed light on dark universe Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys have found two supernovae that exploded so long ago they provide new clues about the accelerating universe and its mysterious "dark energy." The supernovae are approximately 5 and 8 billion light-years from Earth. The farther one exploded so long ago the universe may still have been decelerating under its own gravity. FULL STORY Giant solar tadpoles born in explosion Dark features resembling Earth-sized tadpoles were seen swimming in the atmosphere of the Sun after it was heated to millions of degrees following an enormous explosion, according to scientists who made the observation using NASA's Transition Region and Coronal Explorer spacecraft.
