Team Nova Scotia Brings Home the Gold
PRINCE ALBERT, SK - July 30, 2002 At a final count, Team Nova Scotia captured 111 medals at the 2002 Special Olympics National Summer Games in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan last week. With a mere 58 athletes, these numbers set a new standard for the rest of the provinces throughout Canada.
Team Nova Scotia maintained its stellar reputation in athletics taking an outstanding 58 medals as Michele Brushett and Nathan States lit up the track. Jason Rafuse, Jamie Belong, and Brian Wade eliminated the rest of the competition taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a sweep of the 4kg shotput - what a team!
Cobequid takes soccer bronze Thanks to all our sponsors
Nova Scotia's softball team gave Ontario a run for their money in the gold medal match on Saturday as Isaac Paris and Glen "Nugget" Peterson knocked ball after ball out of the park. Despite a sincere effort, Team Nova Scotia took silver in the bottom of the fifth losing 28 to 17.
No one could be more pleased with their team than coach, Bob Henderson, as his four athletes took 12 for 12 gold in the powerlifting competition on Friday night. David Sisco, Greg Eagle, Jody Naugler and Jackie Barrett put on a show to out-lift all of the other provinces in both bench press and dead lift.
