George I, king of Great Britain (George Louis), 1660-1727, king of Great Britain and Ireland (1714-27); son of Sophia , electress of Hanover, and great-grandson of James I. He became (1698) elector of Hanover, fought in the War of the Spanish Succession, and in 1714 succeeded Queen Anne under the provisions of the Act of Settlement , becoming the first British sovereign of the house of Hanover . He was personally unpopular in England because of his German manners, his German mistresses (see Schulenburg, Ehrengard Melusina von der, duchess of Kendal ), his treatment of his divorced wife, Sophia Dorothea , and his inability to speak English. George's dual role as elector of Hanover and king of England also raised problems; he spent much of his time in Hanover and was widely (although unjustly) believed to be indifferent to English affairs. Yet, despite the uprising of the Jacobites Stanhope , the 3d earl of Sunderland , Viscount Townshend , and Robert Walpole . The principal achievement of these years was the Quadruple Alliance of 1718, which provided an international guarantee of the Hanoverian succession and the status quo of the Peace of Utrecht (1713). Another section summarizes the central characteristics of this model and addresses the most common criticisms. to the "Westminster model" section The political system in Great Britain - often falsely referred to as England - features many unique aspects. The problems begin with the territorial structure of the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" as it is known officially. Abstract:
The public space in medieval towns and cities was shaped and influenced by the private spaces that surrounded it. The private was, like the public, a complex domain; many interests coexisted there. The pressures of population gowth and commercial development fragmented individual holdings and created overlapping layers of claims to particular spaces. Neighbors' interests also impinged; the enjoyment of the private was far from exclusive. Elaborate codes of property rights and legal procedures evolved as a fundamental part of urban custom. When the property market declined in the later Middle Ages, however, practices changed, and new ways of defining and describing private property emerged.

The accession of James I and the end of the war with Spain Upon the death of Elizabeth I, James VI, King of Scots (son of Mary, Queen of Scots), succeeded as James I, King of England, thereupon uniting the crowns but not the governments of England and Scotland. To mark the union of the crowns, a new ensign was designed superimposing the red cross of St George on the white cross of St Andrew. Closer union of the nations parliaments, for example, was rejected by the commons and abandoned after 1607. One of James I's first acts of foreign policy was to bring the long war with Spain to an end. Although this greatly helped the depleted English treasury (and helped enforce James's reputation as rex pacificus), the policy was, in part, unpopular because peace meant that both the English and the Dutch had to acknowledge the Spanish claim to a monopoly of trade between their own South American colonies and the rest of the world.

    Henry VII, Tudor
House of Tudor Reigned: 1485-1509 Henry VII, son of Edmund Tudor and Margaret Beaufort, was born in 1457. He married Elizabeth of York in 1486, who bore him four children: Arthur, Henry, Margaret and Mary. He died in 1509 after reigning 24 years. Henry descended from John of Gaunt, through the latter's illicit affair with Catherine Swynford; although he was a Lancastrian, he gained the throne through personal battle. The Lancastrian victory at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485 left Richard III slain on the field, York ambitions routed, and Henry proclaimed king. From the onset of his reign, Henry was determined to bring order to England after 85 years of civil war. His marriage to Elizabeth of York combined both the Lancaster and York factions within the Tudor line, eliminating further discord in regards to succession. He faced two insurrections during his reign, each centered around "pretenders" who claimed a closer dynastic link to the Plantagenets than Henry. Lambert Simnel posed as the Earl of Warwick, but his army was defeated and he was eventually pardoned and forced to work in the king's kitchen. Perkin Warbeck posed as Richard of York

Also, George Monks was granted land in thanks for helping bring the Stuarts back onto the throne. (Stuart was sometimes called the pretender. Look it up, it's an interesting story!) This story loses credibility when you realize that there were MONCUS' in England (with that spelling) before Thomas Monkes was even born.
This from Loleeda According to the History of Northwest Missouri and information given by James Franklin Munkres the Munkers family originated from Cornwall, England. I was also told by several people from different branches of the family that they came from somewhere in Europe, then Ireland and Scotland, then England and then to the United States.
