Each SBE professor is involved in many projects (e.g., consulting, textbook development, research, and course development) that may require intern support. The professors have their own hiring criteria (e.g., grades, communication skills, motivation, computer literacy), and students who are interested in such working opportunities should contact the professor with whom they would like to work. Students should realize that SBE professors have high expectations, but also try to provide a stimulating atmosphere and a rewarding experience for the intern. It is common for students to begin interning in their second year, once their study habits and grades have been more formally established. However, in special cases, first-year students have interned on unique projects matched with their special skills. The pay for this work varies from the minimum hourly wage, to a contract fee for the entire project (e.g., $500.00). The fee is usually negotiated with the professor. Students normally intern to get experience working with their professors, and to learn more about a topic about which they are excited. Some students have even had their work published along with that of their professors!
