    Dawn Green
    Teaching Philosophy
I believe that teaching as a profession is an enormous responsibility and privilege. The classroom is the anticamera to the world. An informed teacher should be very thoughtful about the messages that are passed along in the classroom. I believe that it is above all the responsibility of the teacher to never lose sight of the mission of education and to treat the profession with the reverence it deserves. I believe that teaching in itself is a learning experience and that a good teacher should strive for excellence by staying current her field, engaging in related research, and attending conferences and workshops. A teacher should be open to new techniques and methods and still have confidence and faith in what she already knows. Teaching, like learning, is a life-long process. One should endeavor to be constantly growing and building both subject knowledge and pedagogical skills. I believe that scholarly inquiry and teaching are interdependent and rely on each other for their mutual development. I believe that it is the task of the teacher to be a role model and a mentor, and to enable each student to realize their individual potential. It is important to teach students to be independent thinkers and responsible for their own learning. The teacher acts as a facilitator to knowledge and discovery. I believe that teachers can make an enormous difference in the lives and futures of their students.

Pre-School Science Skills Collecting Observing Estimating Measuring ... Problem-Solving Everyday Activities Pre-school science starts at home, as does every other early learning experience. Here are some suggestions on developing basic science skills at home. Collecting
Most kids have a lot of something, whether it's magnets, pens, toy cars, or rocks. Encourage your child to view these things as a collection of items and have them on display or kept in a box for easy show and tell. Your children will be proud of their collections and will get a thrill out of finding more items to add to it every day. Share your collections with your child also. Most people are natural collectors of something, even if it is shoes! Observing
Kids notice everything and ask a lot of questions. Your child may one day say, "The paper carrier didn't come today." When you had no idea she even knew you had a paper carrier. Teaching your child to observe things will be easy. All you need to do is direct them towards something to observe. The seasons of the year are a good start. If you live in warm climates watch the news for signs of the seasons. Try to observe things that are around your home. Observe the birds in your yard, the dog next door, a banana as it turns brown, or even the routine of a parent. Estimating
How many potatoes will it take to fill up this bowl? How many cups of water to fill up this pitcher? How many cookies are in the jar. How many steps will it take to get to bed. These are some good examples of estimating games. See if you can think of some more.

    72. Teach Your Daughter Math Skills That Will Last A Lifetime.  @ Educating Jane.co
    PreSchool Math skills.
    http://www.educatingjane.com/Study/preschool-math.htm
Pre-School Math Skills Math Talk Reasoning Problem-Solving Math at Home So you are a writer, not a mathematician and now you are faced with the challenge of teaching your daughter math skills that will last a lifetime. Where do you begin? You begin with a positive attitude about math and understanding and belief that everyone can learn and be good at math. Having a positive outlook on math will make the difference between passing grades and smashing grades in the years to come.
Now that you are in the right mind set, what next? Building on the basics should be the focus during the early years. Here are a few things to focus on at home: Math Talk
    Reasoning
Reasoning is being able to think logically. Encourage your daughter to seek out the relationships between things that might help her solve problems. Explain your reasoning on how you solved a problem. Notice similarities and differences between things around the house. Once she starts reasoning about things that are unrelated to math, listen and always let her finish telling you why she thinks the way she does. Problem Solving
Becoming a problem solver is a road to self discovery in itself. Once your child knows that she can solve basic problems, she becomes more confident in trying to solve more complicated ones. Teaching her to solve problems at an early age is tremendously powerful to a growing self-esteem. Encourage your daughter to figure out problems on her own. Have her explain how she came up with the answer and then discuss other ways of solving the problem. Ask questions like, "Do you know of another way you could have figured that out?"
