Adult education programs in nine counties have been awarded special grants from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Office of Adult Education, to provide family literacy services. These $25,000 grants enable adult education programs in these counties to add family literacy to the services they already offer.
These new TN family literacy programs join existing Even Start family literacy programs in twenty-eight counties across the state. All these family literacy programs follow the Workforce Investment Act to incorporate, either directly or through community partnerships, all four components necessary for a successful family literacy project, including:

Welcome to the only Dude Ranch in the
Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee!
At our ranch, the kids are treated with special attention
No other vacation leaves a lasting impression more than a visit to a Dude Ranch! Our specially picked wranglers give children a lasting memory they will never forget. Our kids program gives extra attention the first day with a longer corral orientation. While the adults ride out on their first ride, the kids get extra training and then go out on a shorter ride. They will also paint horses, enjoy arts and crafts, and have treasure hunts. We look forward to having your family here at our Ranch. One of the activities kids love the most are tubing. These days we hear stories about children becoming involved in drugs, gangs and violence. Every day, the YMCA sees children who are excited about learning leadership skills and participating in projects. 97. Graduate Programs In Child & Family Studies
CFS graduate programs seek to produce researchers, scholars, and educators who arecapable of independent investigation of family and developmental processes.
http://cfs.he.utk.edu/Main/gradprog.htm
Graduate Programs
The Department of Child and Family Studies (CFS) provides both masters and doctoral degrees. Our graduate programs are based on the model of the “empirically-based professional” or social scientist. Graduate students learn to conduct research on child development, family studies, and educational environments in accordance with established standards of scientific inquiry and evaluation. CFS graduate programs seek to produce researchers, scholars, and educators who are capable of independent investigation of family and developmental processes. Students also receive training on how to conduct scientifically based assessments of prevention, intervention and educational strategies. Many opportunities exist in CFS for graduate students to become involved in research on children, youth, and families. A central foundation of graduate programs in CFS is the idea that scientific inquiry provides the most effective means to improve the welfare of children, youth and families. A cornerstone idea for CFS graduate programs is “development in context,” or the perspective that human development is best understood in terms of interconnections among families, neighborhoods, schools, communities, cultures, and international environments.
