Wins Prestigious Journal's 'Best Paper' Award
RICHARDSON, Texas (June 19, 2002) - For the second time in six months, a professor in the finance area in The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) School of Management won a "best paper" award from a prestigious finance journal. A paper co-authored by Dr. Theodore E. Day, area coordinator for finance and managerial economics and a professor in UTD's School of Management, this month won the "Fama/DFA Prize" as the best paper on capital markets and asset pricing published in the Jounal of Financial Economics during 2001. The award is named in honor of Eugene Fama of the University of Chicago, one of the "intellectual fathers" of modern research in finance during the mid-1960s who remains an active researcher to this day. The paper, "Following the Leader: A Study of Individual Analysts' Earnings Forecasts," was co-authored by Rick A. Cooper of Harris Investment Management Company, Chicago, and Craig M. Lewis of the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. The paper was published in the fall of 2001. The prize-winning paper develops and tests procedures for ranking the performance of security analysts based on the timeliness of their earni ngs forecasts.

2002 Farm Bill Programs
Conservation of Private Grazing Land (CPGL) New in 2002!
A voluntary technical assistance program that encourages conservation on private grazing lands through the use of sustainable year-round, rotational or managed grazing systems.
Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)
A voluntary program in which landowners enroll in contracts to take highly erodible and other environmentally sensitive croplands out of production.
Conservation Security Program (CSP) New in 2002!
A new voluntary program that provides financial and technical assistance to producers who practice good stewardship on their agricultural lands and incentives to those that wish to do more.
Continuous Conservation Reserve Program (CCRP)
An incentive program that encourages the development of filter strips, buffers, windbreaks and shelterbelts to reduce soil erosion and water pollution.
Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP)
A voluntary conservation program for farmers and ranchers who face serious threats to soil, water and related natural resources. EQIP includes special funding for water conservation in the Ogallala Aquifer region.
The Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (FRPP)
A voluntary program that helps farmers and ranchers keep their land in agriculture by providing matching money to qualifying farmland protection land trusts which can be used to buy conservation easements on eligible land.
