Prologue
A lively and informative half-hour talk about the play currently on stage is given before every performance of each regular season play. Prologue starts 1 hour before curtain in the Mainstage (30 minutes prior to curtain on Opening Night).
Sunday Salon
Held immediately after the fourth Sunday Matinee performance of every play, Sunday Salon is an informal opportunity for audience and actors to ask and answer questions.
Magic in the Making Geva's special event for donors is designed to share our process of creating theatre and includes tours, and both the audio description and sign interpretive programs. Each department of Geva's staff will get the opportunity to speak about their process in creating the current production. The clearer we share our process, the better understood our productions will be. If you have ever wondered how something was done in the theatre, this is the time to find out.

In the post-production process, numerous special effects had to be created, such as the demise of the underworld and Eustace and Jill flying on Aslan's breath into Narnia. In one particularly fun and interesting scene, giants are hurling rocks at one another. During the recording process, the production crew made sure the vocal recordings of the actors playing the giants were kept isolated. In order to give the actors size and volume in their voicesin other words, to make them sound like giantspitch shifting and processing needed to occur, and each voice needed its own process.
Once the voices were masked to sound like giants, the music score and sound effects were combined to portray the playfulness of the game. Effects were created for boulders hitting the earth, but we also decided to add a comic touch by having incoming bomb sounds accompany the effects.

Virgo's Trick Shots The Crucible Theatre - Snooker's Wembley It is difficult to believe a theatre stage that has recreated The Blitz can be transformed into the most famous snooker arena in the world! But that is exactly what happens to the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield when the Embassy World Championship rolls into town every year for its 17 day festival. The Embassy World Championship was first staged at the Crucible in 1977 and is now as famous for snooker as Wembley is for football, Wimbledon for tennis and Lord’s for cricket. The Crucible Theatre is part of Sheffield Theatres, the largest theatre complex outside London. There is, of course, the Crucible plus the nearby Lyceum and The Studio, the latter being converted into a two table practice area and the TV set for the BBC team and front man. Chris Reece, the Theatre Manager at the Crucible, said: "On the actual stage of the Crucible, we once recreated The Blitz with different areas of the stage collapsing. We have also used a full sized cabin cruiser and for William Tell we turfed the stage with grass and even imported a swimming pool and a moat.

Lynn Parrucci, Program Coordinator, Theaters:
Recipe for Vegetable Enchiladas
Lynn Parrucci, education coordinator of theater programs at Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, Penn., and a young visitor create edible clay using peanut butter. Since the opening of the Carnegie Science Center in 1991, I've coordinated programs for the Kitchen Theater and Eating Exhibit. Kitchen Theater programs are half-hour cooking shows focused on the science of food and cooking. The best part of our program is that the audience gets to taste the recipes after each show. Coordination of these programs involves research, writing, development, performance, sometimes video/media production and evaluation oh, I almost forgot and cooking! Like almost everyone in the [science center] industry, I wear many hats. I've presented, helped coordinate programs, and supervised staff and volunteers in several areas, including traveling exhibits. As a member of the Education Division, I've been involved in and developed materials for recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and budgeting for all of our program staff. I now facilitate the division's Theater Team, which includes three multimedia program theaters: the Works, the Blue Cross Health Science Theater, and the Kitchen Theater. My Background
I developed an interest in doing what I do when I was eight years old. My third grade teacher, Mrs. Skiles, used to assign groups to watch The Electric Company and other educational broadcast programs each night. The next day the groups were supposed to pick a scene they like, rehearse it, and perform it for the class then explain what they had learned... Of course, I watched way too much television, and ended up joining and usually directing every group. Mrs. Skiles sat down with me and said, "You really like this stuff don't you these shows and getting up in front of people? It's good...remember what you like to do."

ABT: A Dashing Mix of Old and New
by John Ardoin The concept behind the founding of American Ballet Theatre was not simply the creation of a truly American company, but one that combined the best ballets from the past with works by gifted new choreographers. In fulfilling this mission, the company hoped to reaffirm the past and contribute to the future of dance. That goal was admirably achieved by the company's founding directors Lucia Chase, Richard Pleasant, and Oliver Smith during even the first year of its existence.
Vladimir Malakhov, Parrish Maynard, and Keith Roberts in "Remanso." Among the works seen during ABT's first season in New York were Fokine's "Les Sylphides" and "Le Carnaval," prepared under his direction; "Giselle" and act two of "Swan Lake" in versions by Anton Dolin; Bronislava Nijinska's setting of "La Fille Mal Gardée"; "The Great American Goof," a new work by Eugene Loring to a libretto by William Saroyan; Mikhail Mordkin's "Voices of Spring"; and three works by Antony Tudor, who has been called "the artistic conscience of American Ballet Theatre" "Jardin aux Lilas," "Dark Elegies," and "Judgment of Paris." These works set a style that was old and new, lyrical and brash one that has remained a hallmark of ABT today. Through the years, few companies have been able to boast so wide a range of choreographic works. In a given season with ABT, one can see the great Russian classics such as "Swan Lake" or "Sleeping Beauty," modern classics like "Rodeo" and "Apollo," and new contemporary pieces such as "Airs," "Push Comes to Shove," and "Duets." The company has embraced dance works of Marius Petipa, Léonide Massine, George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Agnes de Mille, and Twyla Tharp, to skim only the cream off the top of the choreographers who have played a major role in ABT's history. There have been a parade of great dancers such as Alicia Alonso, Mikhail Baryshnikov (who also served as the company's artistic director from 1980 to 1990), Carla Fracci, Erik Bruhn, Natalia Makarova, Rudolf Nureyev, and Alicia Markova. For all of these legends, at one time or another, ABT was their artistic home.

Friday, April 11, 2003
(Weekly Host Danny Casillas
and FEM Creator Steve Silverman) Who in their right mind wants to deal with putting up 32 different shows featuring 32 different performers over 4 weekends and then a "Best Of" Night for major industry casting executives critiquing everything you do? Meet Steve Silverman...
Uh, OK, let's start with a simple question: WHY? STEVE: If I had a dime for every time someone asks me that question... It's a fair question. STEVE: It's a very fair question. Without holding up some E.R.A. sign, I think female performers are underused and underseen in Hollywood and in the arts in general. Yes, guys have it tough too - hell, everyone trying to show themselves and their art and their voice, they - WE - all have it tough. So how did this idea pop into your head? Did you have any doubts about FEM? STEVE: Creatively, no, never, thank God. The auditions proved that there is tons of talent out there, tons of uniqueness, and tons of stories to be told and ways to tell them. Production-wise, from the producer's standpoint, after doing 13 other shows before this, if you put money into a show, it's about bodies in seats. We figured if each performer brought 5 people to each show, that would be 20 people. I mean who's gonna come out to see a show at 11pm? I've done late-night shows before - they're tough. FEM broke all my rules. The smallest audience we've ever had is 31, the largest is 116! 116 people at 11 o'clock at night! Who invited you people

http://www.highlanderfilm.com/new1526.html
Producing a Motion Picture
The skills and talents of many different people are involved in filmmaking. The stars and other actors who appear on the screen are only part of the story; most of what goes into a production takes place off-camera. Depending on the size, or scale, of the production, and the financing available, thousands of people may have a part in producing a motion picture. The following descriptions of the duties performed by the people involved in producing a motion picture apply mainly to the feature film. Among those who are most prominent behind the scenes are the producer, screenwriter, director, production manager, assistant director, director of photography, casting director, film and sound editors, composer, and production and costume designers. The Producer
The producer is responsible for turning a film idea into a finished motion picture by arranging for the financing of the project, gathering the talent to make the film, and, finally, making arrangements for distributing the finished product. When financing has been obtained from independent investors who form a limited partnership, the producer is often made the general, or managing, partner. A studio or distributor that has financed the motion picture may require a representative, called an executive producer, to be involved during production. A person contributing substantially in any manner to the motion picture may receive the credit of associate producer or some other similar title.
