SPORTS 'R' US BERMUDA NATIONAL TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS Race Report Bermuda Triathlon Association Press Release - 30 October 2000 There were no surprises in Sunday's Sports 'R' Us Bermuda Senior National Triathlon Championships as Karen Smith and Kent Richardson once again dominated the field with emphatic victories. The cash bonus award offered by Sports 'R' Us was safe quite safe in the senior ranks. Smith exited the 750-metre swim as first female, extended the gap over the challenging 40-kilometre windy and wet bike course to take a commanding lead into the run. With an impressive 10-kilometre run, Smith finished well ahead in the women's division and took 2nd place overall. Kim Mason with an exceptional bike ride took 2nd place and Lea Butterfield continues to improve with a 3rd place finish. Richardson exited the water in 2nd place behind teenager Nick Taylor, but took the lead for good with the fastest 40km bike split of the day. After the blistering bike ride, Richardson struggled early on the 10km run but had enough in the tank to extend his lead over Andrew Davis, his nearest challenger in 2nd place. David Ferguson with a strong overall performance took 3rd place in the men's division. Other divisional winners on the men's side included Jason Krupp (16-29), Aaron Smith (30-39) and Jim Butterfield (40+).
