Abstract
In early 1980s, out of curiosity, I was wondering about a possible existence of an affinity between Altaic Languages and the native languages spoken in the Americas. So I made a research, (although not as a linguist), with the hope of finding some living words presently used in Turkish and also in the languages of the Native Peoples of Americas. After all thousands of years ago, the ancestors of both the Turks and those of some of the Native Peoples of the American continents shared the same geographic area in Central Asia and Siberia. I wrote a paper about my findings through my research entitled "Probable Existence of a Linguistic and Cultural Kinship Between the Altaic Peoples and the Native Peoples of Americas." The following is a rearrangement of the original paper.

TURKISH LANGUAGE
Turkish belongs to the Altay branch of the Uralo-Altay linguistic family, same as Finnish and Hungarian. It is the westernmost of the Turkic languages spoken across Central Asia and is generally classified as a member of the South-West group, also known as the Oguz group. Other Turkic languages, all of which are closely related, include Azerbaijani (Azeri), Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tatar, Turkmen, Uighur, Uzbek, and many others spoken from the Balkans across Central Asia into northwestern China and southern Siberia. Turkic languages are often grouped with Mongolian and Tungusic languages in the Altaic language family. Strictly speaking, the "Turkish" languages spoken between Mongolia and Turkey should be called Turkic languages, and the term "Turkish" should refer to the language spoken in Turkey alone. It is common practice, however, to refer to all these languages as Turkish, and differentiate them with reference to the geographical area, for example, the Turkish language of Azerbaijan. The Turkish language is one of the most widely spoken and oldest languages in the world The Turkish language is spread over a large geographical area in Europe and Asia; recent studies show that this language goes back 5500 years, and perhaps even 8500. At the same time, it is one of the most widely spoken tongues in the world - the sixth most widely spoken , to be precise. Turkish Language and Literature
The Turkish language belongs to the Altay branch of the Uralo-Altay linguistic family. Through the span of history, Turks have spread over a wide geographical area, taking their language with them. Turkish speaking people have lived in a wide area stretching form today's Mongolia to the north coast of the Black Sea, the Balkans, East Europe, Anatolia, Iraq and a wide area of northern Africa. Various dialects and accents have emerged from these distances. The history of the language is divided into three main groups, old Turkish (from the 7th to the 13th centuries), mid-Turkish (from the 13th to the 20th), and new Turkish from the 20th century onwards. During the five centuries of the Ottoman Empire period, Arabic and Persian words as well as words from other languages were assimilated into the Turkish language. The natural development of the Turkish language was severely hampered during this time. The "new language" movement began in 1928, five years after the proclamation of the Republic, and the Arabic alphabet was replaced by the Latin one. The new language movement also sought to rid the language of foreign words. The Turkish Language Institute was established in 1932 to carry out linguistic research and contribute to the natural development of the language. As a consequence of these efforts, modern Turkish is a literary and cultural language developing naturally and free of foreign influences. The history of Turkish literature may be divided into three periods reflecting the history of Turkish civilization:

Ankara University TÖMER Language Teaching Centre HÝTÝT Turkish Language Teaching Set Ankara University TÖMER Language Teaching Centre has been in a phase of restructuring since the beginning of 2001. New targets have been set so that the Centre can adapt itself to the ever-changing conditions in the world, teaching materials currently used can be updated and the level of teaching quality can be reorganised to meet universal criteria. Within this process current structuring and standards of all TÖMER branches has been evaluated and studies geared to better both the teaching concept and quality have already been initiated. The change was started with efforts to renew teaching material used at TÖMER, whose first and foremost mission is to teach Turkish to foreigners. TÖMER, whose main aim at the outset have been the renewal of teaching material so that the material in question can be had a modern content, upon defining new aims and willing to bring a new perspective into language teaching via modern methods, techniques and materials, started a project in Ankara in February 2001 to prepare a new Turkish Language Teaching Set. The project is called HITIT TURKISH LANGUAGE TEACHING SET . This set is completely a product of TÖMER academic and administrative personnel. Hitit Turkish Language Teaching Set prepared to teach Turkish to foreigners will be presented for use to Turkish language teaching individuals, associations and organisations in many countries in the world. The set, designed to meet needs of foreigners learning Turkish in Turkey or abroad, contains language teaching material designed and implemented to teach four integrated skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking) by assigning each one equal weight.
