They help enforce fishing, boating and environmental rules and regulations. The state currently has some 300 volunteers working as DWCOs. The training is extensive and will aid anyone looking for future work in law enforcement. Weekend hours are a must! To apply, you must be a PA resident with a valid PA driver's license. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and reside in the district where they are interviewed. They must have 20/20 vision (or correctable to 20/20). They must have correct color vision and be able to use firearms with each hand. Applicants need to be able to swim and perform CPR. If you are interested in one or more of these positions, jot them down, then go to "How Do I Get Involved" and follow the instructions. Or call us at between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Adult Literacy programs are looking for volunteers to tutor adults in English at libraries or adult education schools throughout Broward County. Training and certification is provided. Arts and Cultural Centers throughout Broward County have ongoing volunteer opportunities. There is probably a theater or museum in your local area that could use your assistance. Broward County Schools are in need of volunteers for Headstart/Preschool, Elementary, Middle and High schools. One to four hours of your time each week can impact a child for a lifetime. Homeless Assistance Centers located in Hollywood, Ft. Lauderdale and Pompano Beach have various volunteer opportunities; social workers, tutors, beauticians/barbers, mentors, child care aides, office assistants, arts and craft, and special event volunteers. Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers Project trains volunteers to be companions and respite caregivers to homebound elderly or disabled persons. Training sessions are held on a regular basis.
