Contact CBE Policy, Standards, and Instruction Projects in Standards-Based Professional Development Cleveland School District In addition to working with Cleveland leaders and educators to develop district standards in English, mathematics, science, and the arts, CBE has been assisting Cleveland with building professional development to facilitate the implementation of those standards. This has included providing professional development to both teaching staff and leaders, providing the technical support for the Teachers Summer Institute, and providing training for administrators on standards. Additionally, one product of this professional development will be the collection of student work from Cleveland students that illustrates "meeting the standard." Curriculum that integrates the arts and other content areas will also be developed, and the work on standards for Social Studies begins in 2001. Los Angeles Unified School District As in Cleveland, CBEs work with the Los Angeles Unified School district began with the development of district standards. Later, CBE worked closely with LAUSD to develop curriculum to align with the standards in the form of Standards-Based Instruction Models lesson plan templates designed to help teachers align lessons to standards, identify the goal of the lesson and acceptable evidence of the goal, and develop rubrics for scoring student work. Teachers worked in groups to develop the SBIMs and would continue to meet to share student work produced from the lessons.
