The International Weed Science Society (IWSS) was formed in 1975, by individuals from Europe, North America, South America, and the Asian-Pacific area, to deal with global weed science issues. The Society has held three highly successful International Weed Control Congresses, in Australia (1992), Denmark (1996), and in Brazil (2000); its next Congress will be in South Africa (2004). The IWSS is a worldwide scientific organization, open to all who are interested in weeds and their control. The formation of IWSS was promoted actively by the six existing regional weed science societies. The purpose of IWSS is to supplement and complement their vital role. Additionally, IWSS provides benefits and functions of a weed science society not currently existing at a national or regional level. Click to Join The Internaional Weed Science Society. The program integrates research and educational reports from academia, industry, and regulatory agencies. Sessions focus on weed biology and management techniques and laws and regulations appropriate for urban and agricultural settings including: turf and ornamental sites, trees and vines, agronomic and vegetable crops, industrial and aquatic sites, forests, range and natural areas. A general membership meeting and luncheon are a focal point for recognition awards at the theme based conference. Our membership includes pest control advisers, public resource managers, and university and industry scientiests. Annual participation exceeds 900 and continuing education hours are offered. This list will be updated at regular intervals, if you wish to discuss a species addition or removal from the list please contact Rod Randall The text list has been replaced by self extracting compressed download files for the quickest possible load time. When expanded the complete file has over 13,000 entries. Once downloaded you can search the list using the 'find' facilities of Microsoft Excel. You can also save the list as a text version and then open it in any word processing or other spreadsheet software. Please take the time to read the following information to assist your search: Each entry contains:
  • "Status" - 'OK' indicates Permitted species, those marked 'Quarantine Weed' are prohibited entry to the state. Records that had 'ID Required' next to them are no longer supplied to remove any ambiguity from the listing of these names. All names listed are now either Permitted Taxa or Quarantine Weeds. ANY species name not on the list will require weed assessment PRIOR to importing into the State. "Name" - The latin name "Author" - The name of the person who validly published the scietific name "Synonyms" - Any accepted synonyms (synonymous Latin names) "Common names" - Any available "Import Exceptions"

Clover broomrape ( Orobanche minor ) grower guidelines
Clover broomrape is a parasitic plant that attaches and draws water and nutrients from several plant species, including red clover. Since 1923, there have been six reports of clover broomrape in Oregon. In 1998, clover broomrape was identified in a single field. In 2000, clover broomrape was found in 15 fields in Northwestern Oregon. Raptor tankmixed with Basagran for weed control in crimson clover Raptor (imazamox) has received a Special Local Need (SLN) registration for use in crimson clover seed production. Crimson clover is a slow-growing crop that is not very competitive with winter- or spring-germinating weeds. Additionally, preliminary research results suggest that crimson clover can host small broomrape, a federally listed noxious parasitic weed that is found in the Willamette Valley. Raptor is not currently labeled in other clover species, but may be in the future.

Weed Science is the study of weeds, and their relationship to humans and the environment. Simply put, a plant is a weed if it is biologically successful and if it interferes with the activities, or welfare, of people. Weeds are a problem in parks and wilderness areas, rangelands and managed lands, crops and turf. Weed Scientists are trained in biology, chemistry and agricultural sciences to provide basic inputs for weed management systems in food and fiber production, human health, recreation and scenic beauty, and development and maintenance of water resources. Although weed problems are as old as humankind's effort to till the soil, the major advances in Weed Science have occurred since the early 1950's.

Wisconsin Extension agronomists and horticulturalists respond to the needs of Wisconsin growers and related agribusinesses. Programs are developed that build the knowledge base and decision-making skills of agricultural professionals in the state. This involves workshops, hands-on training sessions, field days, and a diversity of educational meetings and materials. The Wisconsin Crop Manager newsletter is a weekly publication that provides real-time information on current agricultural and horticultural issues throughout the growing season. The Agronomy Advice articles are short articles that address specific weed problems or other weed management issues. Many of the articles found here are also found elsewhere on this website. Weed Profiles are information-packed fact sheets about specific weeds including their biology, habitat, distribution, importance, and management. Current herbicide labels and IPM strategies are discussed in the Weed Management section. Herbicide registrations that occur after the printed recommendation publications have gone to press are also found here.
