State Board Policies: Policy 2510 Assuring the Quality of Education: Regulations for Education Programs Background The most recent revision of Policy 2510 inadvertently omitted the elective requirements for grades 9-12 that are in effect until July 1, 2004. Elective requirements effective until July 1, 2004 are reflected in Chart V of the current policy. In order to accurately specify current requirements it is necessary to include them as Chart V(A) and rename the new requirement section V(B). Summary of Revisions The revisions reflect the inclusion of the current 9-12 elective requirements as Chart V (A) and rename the new elective section as Chart V(B). Chart V(A) would be labeled pages 38-39 with subsequent page numbers changed accordingly. Policy 2510 will be on public comment until February 14, 2003. http://wvde.state.wv.us/policies

http://www.wvsc.edu/academics/catalog/bachelor/education.html
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION Students who plan for a career as a teacher must pursue a curriculum in teacher education which leads to a certificate to teach in the schools of West Virginia. All options described in the following pages have been organized in such a way that students completing a plan will be qualified for a West Virginia teaching certificate. If a student desires to teach in a state other than West Virginia, the approved program completed at West Virginia State College may qualify the student for a comparable initial certificate in the state of his/her choice. To be certain, the student should obtain the requirements of other states by contacting the appropriate state certification agency. MISSION AND PURPOSE OF THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM Changes in society always influence the educative process. What is dynamic today in teaching may well be static tomorrow. How teacher education is organized for the remainder of the century will be a challenging task and one that teacher preparation institutions must thoroughly and systematically accomplish. A quality program is built upon strong, complementary, sequences of academic professional and personal knowledge gained from classroom studies, practical experiences, and documented research. The following student outcomes provide the bases for our preparation program.
