In Guatemala there are a lot of possibilities for volunteerjobs. At an economic point of view the country is very poor. The poverty is most visible in the area of childcaring, education and medical care. Different organizations started their projects and also a lot of private people set up their own projects. At this time there are a lot of projects going on,but there is little survey. With this website I will try to inventorize projects, so you can get an impression of the kind of projects, places to go and other relevant things. Because my volunteer-world started in Guatemala,I have been looking particularly for projects overthere.

Usenet Newsgroups offer Support Online
Leonard Holmes, Ph.D. http://mentalhealth.about.com Usenet has been around much longer than the World Wide Web. Unix computers began talking with each other in the early 1980s. It's all text here, but that's okay. Usenet is basically a global bulletin board system. An official description can be found in this What is Usenet FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) article. A portion of the description from this article reads: Usenet is a world-wide distributed discussion system. It consists of a set of "newsgroups" with names that are classified hierarchically by subject. "Articles" or "messages" are "posted" to these newsgroups by people on computers with the appropriate software these articles are then broadcast to other interconnected computer systems via a wide variety of networks. Some newsgroups are "moderated"; in these newsgroups, the articles are first sent to a moderator for approval before appearing in the newsgroup.

alt.adjective.noun.verb.verb.verb
This is the FAQ that describes the newsgroup alt.adjective.noun.verb.verb.verb, which is a newsgroup where posts are supposed to be in the format of alt.adjective.noun.verb.verb.verb, for example, alt.new.readers.welcome.welcome.welcome. The FAQ is also done in this style, so it may take a while to get through. alt.bigfoot Alt.bigfoot is a group devoted to Bigfoot, but is pretty humourous, with strong Canadian overtones and discussions of the ongoing Bigfoot vs. moose debate. The newsgroup appears to be very low traffic currently. alt.collecting.8-track-tapes
