Quotes to Inspire the Writer Within
Writing a book is a long, exhausting struggle, like a long bout of some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand.

Overcoming Writers Block
Ah, I remember writers block. I used to suffer from it a long time ago. Today I write dozens of articles a week, perhaps five hundred a year. Earlier in my life, I would go months and months without writing a word. Why? Writers block. But I suffer no longer.
The Causes
What causes writers block? In my case, I've found a few causes. The idiots of the world - Occasionally I'll write something and get a negative comment. In the past when I was in my twenties (seems like a different lifetime now) this would stop me cold. I'd get a comment like "this isn't that great" or "you should change your article thusly..." and bam, I would stop writing for weeks or months. Some other failure in life - I've found that when I was failing somewhere else in life I would stop writing. You know, hard times at work, lost love, that kind of thing. When life seemed to hit me particularly hard, I would find that I didn't feel like writing at all.

Overcoming writers block: five writing exercises
The phenomenon of writer’s block has had many a writer burning the midnight oil trying desperately to compose a piece. In a world of fast-paced deadlines and fickle audiences, it is a writer’s worst nightmare. While writer’s block is often a very complex problem, its solutions are usually simple. The following are five carefully composed exercises that are designed to combat the worst kinds of writer’s block. bodyOffer(26222) Step One: Write for Yourself Many writers sit down to the blank page prepared to write the next Great American Novel. This is neither practical nor healthy. Letting the expectations and standards of the outside world slip into your private sphere is almost certain to leave your mind blank within minutes. To combat this tendency, take a piece of paper and write whatever you want for as long as you like. It doesn’t matter if it’s a masterpiece or absolute crap, as long as the pressure is off. Then read it. Chances are nine out of ten that it will be some of the most real, relaxed writing you’ve done in a while. Try this exercise several more times, and pretty soon you’ll be approaching every piece as though it were simply a rough draft, with amazing results. Step Two: Remember Your Motivation Often the pressure of writing something leads one to forget why they’ve chosen to write it at all. Take a piece of paper and make a question list. Ask yourself why you started writing in the first place. When you feel yourself answer, ask “Why.” (Example: I started writing because I love the freedom. Why? Because being able to do my own thing is important to me. Why? ) After a period of time you might be able to unravel the cause of your writer’s block, and discover the motivation to move forward.

Writers Block Literary Scam
When New York authorities gave a so-called "book doctor" a checkup last month, they made a startling diagnosis: the Buffalo-area company was running a literary scam that would make any author feel sick.
By Luke Reiter

Email this story Authors spread word of Edit Ink's alleged literary scam via the Net. In January 1997, New York Attorney General Dennis Vacco began another chapter in his crusade against online literary fraud filing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Edit Ink, a professional editing corporation that allegedly "ripped off thousands of aspiring authors through a nationwide network of fake literary agents and fictitious publishing houses." In the end, more than 3,600 authors had allegedly been swindled, and Edit Ink had reaped more than $5.5 million in fraudulent referral fees. Now, thanks to the vigilance of the online literary community, Vacco has agreed to seek damages for those victimized. According to the complaint, William Appel, who masterminded the scheme, set up an elaborate network of fake literary agents with little or no experience in publishing. This network, which included Appel's friends, sister-in-law, and an acquaintance from his days as a swimming-pool salesman, then solicited book-length manuscripts from aspiring authors. Advertisements were placed on the Internet, in literary publications, and even in the Book Review section of the

Well... I guess the title about describes this column. Some may call it writers block. I call it just not being able to write when I wanna. The words just won't gel up in my mind. Or.. they gel up, but flatly refuse to come forth in my finger tips to the keyboard. Stephen King said when suffering from writers block to just; "write write write, ... write anything, as long as you are writing." The scene from "The Shinning" comes to mind.. seeing Jack Torrance sitting at his typewriter typing over and over again; "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." You see that afternoon the words died... the dreaded writer's block, and when you are a poet, there isn’t anything that feels worse, for without the words you can’t write. I suppose the most terrifying aspect is the incredible emptiness and the fear, that you may never be able to write again. I wish I could compare it to something to make it more understandable like perhaps riding a bike but with a bike once you know how you never forget, and while most things in life are learned , such as reading and writing there is much more involved here. I guess it’s not so much the words themselves, but the style with which they are written.
A style you have developed and suddenly it’s gone. This was a significant event to me because in over thirty years I’ve never ran out of words not even once, until this day. I tried to shrug it off thinking it happens to everybody but damn, not to me. Outward I maintained some semblance of humanity but inside I churned with fear that I would never be able to write again. I tried to force myself to write staring at an empty page, looking out the window trying desperately to write something, anything, just some words, but I could not even sprawl a meaningless phrase, all I could do was stare and think, stare and think .

msg #:1 11:42 pm on Aug 7, 2002 (utc 0) I've been struggling with something since around the Fall holidays that's commonly known as "Writers Block." I have no idea how it started, and it'll go away momentarily or for a short period of time, but then it's back again. In trying to analyze it, it seems to fall into three categories: 1. Blank page stare
The creative idea or knowledge of the project or goal is there, but when looking at the piece of paper or having the program open with the keyboard ready, the mind seems to freeze. It just seems impossible to find the words to start. 2. Putting it all together
Research may be done if that's what the project takes, notes may have been jotted down or written if it's some creative idea; maybe even an outline has been written. But it just seems that it's not getting pulled together enough to get it properly done. 3. Polishing it off into the finished product

Greetings and welcome to Writers Block. Writers block is the online home to many stories written by two Australians with over active imaginations. The first story ( the Gypsy stones ) was born because Jade asked Kat if she'd write a story with her. As it became a rather favourable pastime for the two of them, they kept going and many more stories have been written since. The stories are written in tandem style via the wonderful technologies of the modern world. There were originally rules that were set as guidelines in writing the stories but they were scrapped as neither of them really paid any attention to them. Truth be told Jade broke most of them :)

Both Jade and Kat met due to a then mutual friend, Darryl.

"God I hate this!" I yelled throwing my notebook across the room. It just wouldn't come to me. I'd been staying up night after night trying to write a story for English. I did everything they said: take a break, take a walk, work on something else. Nothing would work! That's it I've gone brain dead, completely brain dead. No more English for me. I'll just have to make my way through school on my math skills. Yeah right good luck. Looks like I won't be walking across the stage this year. This paper was everything to me. I'd been looking forward to it all year, but I guess I'm washed up, over and done with. A has been at 17. And my teacher counted on me too. I was always the best student in English, always. I started to walk out the door, but I turned back to get my note book on the off chance that something might catch my eyes. Yeah good luck with that I thought to myself as I made my way towards the door. "Where are you going?"

The Writing Center's Guide to Avoiding Writer's Block
Use freewriting, brainstorming, journal writing, writing to the limit, or other informal kinds of writing to explore what you already know about your assignment. You may be pleasantly surprised to discover you already have a fairly large fund of information on the topic. 2. Use the same strategies to explore how you feel about an assignment. If you don't want to do the assignment, such informal writing may help you to determine the source of your resistance. 3. Trick yourself into caring about an assignment by varying your perspective on it. Try writing informally about the topic to several audiences. 4. Write an imaginary dialogue with your instructor about why he or she made this particular assignment. 5. Talk to and work collaboratively with other students in the class. Be sure, however, to move beyond mere complaining about your fate. 6. Break the project down into smaller, more manageable, more easily completed writing tasks. 7. Begin the draft with a focal question that you will attempt to answer in your essay. Write the question in large capital letters across the top of the page or on a post-it stuck next to your computer screen.

Writers Block: How To Fight Back
by Denise Agnew
Writers come in all heights, shapes, weights, and sizes. Yet even writers with a multitude of ideas will find projects slowing down and/or coming to a shrieking halt if the proverbial writer’s block bites them on the…ahem. Inspiration can start you gawking at the computer each morning, yet get you no farther down the page the rest of the day. Something has to keep you excited about your work or all else will fail. The answer comes when you learn how to fight back. At some point in your writing career, you will notice that when you are interviewed (no matter what media), the interviewer will probably ask where you obtained ideas. Writer’s block can materialize like the inspiration that started the idea in the first place. To use a cliché, easy come, easy go. One moment you have an idea, and if you don’t write it down, it may be lost forever. Writer’s block can be nowhere in sight on page two, and on page three…wham. What if you have looked through your idea notebook and nothing looks appetizing? Consider the following possible causes of writer’s block and some potential cures. Problem: Too much on the plate.

Coping with Writers Block
by Joanne Reid
A recurring topic on Internet writers' groups is writers' block. The writers discussing the cursed block range from beginners to old pros at the writing game. Here are some suggestions that came out in a recent discussion as possible reasons for writers' block. Not thinking through a situation carefully enough When the first blush of an idea strikes, the immediate feeling is to sit down and capture it on paper. However, rushing to write before the idea is fully formed can have detrimental effects...suddenly you find yourself painted into a corner with no way out. No outline This is related to the previous problem. Many experts believe that without an outline, you're doomed to failure. Even if it is nothing more than a few lines describing the story, an outline is essential. Even a brief article needs to have its beginning, middle and end sketched out before you begin. Otherwise, it is guaranteed that you will bog down. Being bored with what you're writing Don't write it. If it bores you, imagine how the reader will feel about it. If every section of the work you're writing bores you, dump the entire project. Chances are you are writing something not because you care about it but because you think this type of writing is easy. Confession writing and romance writing are often thought of, by amateurs, as "easy" markets where anything sells. Consequently many people who never read either attempt to rattle off a romance and suddenly find themselves blocked.

Hello again from the ... heart... There are times when one sails through life like a summer breeze, and times when even the simplest or best loved tasks are unfathomably difficult to achieve. For the last week or so I’ve been wading through three feet of mental mud with leaden legs and flailing arms. Partly, I think, it’s a bout of people-poisoning brought on by over-exposure to too many new acquaintances, and partly it’s due to gazing inwards for too long instead of outward. Anyway, there is no problem that can’t be solved by the application of Science. Um... well... perhaps I should say I have no problem that defeats Science. For any length of time, anyhow. After weathering a week of gathering gloom, he loaded me into the car on Saturday and we drove out to Dzalanyama Forest Reserve for a bit of remedial camping in the bushes. It’s more than a year since we visited Dzalanyama. The spine of hills curves against the Mozambique border, and gurgling peat-dark water spills off their flanks to feed the Likuni, the Lilongwe, and the Namitete Rivers as they wind their way to the lake. The woodland is thinning a little now as the autumn msasas slowly loose their leaves, but it’s still deep green and lush. The grass is at the peak of it’s glory. Tall and lion-coloured at a distance, close-to it’s a tangle of textures and shades, rich and beautiful seed-heads hung with shimmering fibres and filaments, a riot of shaded greens, golds between ginger and cream, lilacs from rose to grey. As seed-heads ripen the leaves wither to elegant ringlets, scroll down from the stem like an Elizabethan flourish. How can one doubt a Creator when faced with the perfection of grass?
