Boating Safety Course
The Nautical Know How Basic Boating Course is a NASBLA approved course. Successful completion of this course meets South Carolina's requirement for boating safety education. This section contains information on South Carolina Boating Regulations that are in addition to the Federal Requirements covered in the Basic Boating Course . If you have not reviewed the course material, please do so now. All Federal Requirements in the basic boating course apply to South Carolina; this section lists South Carolina Boating Requirements that are above and beyond Federal Requirements. Age Restrictions: In South Carolina, boat operators under age 16 must complete a boating course approved by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to operate a boat or personal watercraft with a 15 h.p. motor or greater, unless accompanied by an adult age eighteen years or older. Successful completion of this Basic Boating Course meets the requirements of South Carolina's boater education law.

This regulation database is current through State Register Volume 26, Issue 10, effective October 25, 2002. Changes to the regulations enacted by the 2003 General Assembly, which will convene in January 2003, will be incorporated as soon as possible. Some regulations approved by the 2003 General Assembly may take immediate effect. The State of South Carolina and the South Carolina Legislative Council make no warranty as to the accuracy of the data, and users rely on the data entirely at their own risk. Requirements for Teacher Education and Certification REGULATION TOPIC Persons Required to Hold A Teaching Certificate Requirements for Certification Acceptable Credits Education Programs ... Requirements for Initial Certification at the Advanced Level Persons Required to Hold a Teaching Certificate Each individual employed in an instructional, classroom teaching position or who serves in a position designed for the support of the instructional program in a public school of this state must hold an appropriate South Carolina teaching credential. The licensing of related educational professionals in the areas of Audiology, Nursing, and Social Work is remanded to the established licensing boards effective July 1, 2000. Individuals employed as Trade and Industrial teachers are required to meet all general certification requirements except where specified otherwise. Requirements for Certification The applicant must meet all requirements for certification that are in effect in the current application year (July 1-June 30). The responsibility for providing accurate and complete documentation of eligibility is that of the applicant.

Regulations and Procedures for Transfer in Public Two-Year and Public Four-Year Institutions in South Carolina Mandated by Act 137 of 1995
BACKGROUND
Section 10-C of the South Carolina School-to-Work Transition Act (1994) stipulates that the Council of College and University Presidents and the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education, operating through the Commission on Higher Education, shall develop better articulation of associate and baccalaureate degree programs. To comply with this requirement the Commission, upon the advice of the Council of Presidents, established a Transfer Articulation Policy Committee composed of four-year institutions' vice presidents for academic affairs and the Associate Director for Instruction of the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education. The principal outcomes derived from the work of that committee and accepted by the Commission on Higher Education on July 6, 1995, were:
  • An expanded list of 72 courses which will transfer to four-year public institutions of South Carolina from the two-year public institutions;

South Carolina Community Action Agency Directors' Association and Head Start Directors' Association Purpose

The purpose of this Memorandum of Agreement is to facilitate cooperation between the South Carolina Department of Education and Head Start programs in their respective efforts to serve young children with disabilities.
Federal and State initiatives encourage the development of a continuum of services to provide least restrictive environment alternatives to young children with disabilities. The South Carolina Department of Education and the South Carolina Head Start network are committed to providing educational and human service programs to all identified and eligible children and their families who require these services. Both agencies believe that early identification and intervention is crucial and that family involvement is a key element to successful programming.
Objectives
The objectives of this Memorandum of Agreement are:
1. To provide a framework for the development of memoranda of agreement and cooperative efforts between Head Start programs and local education agencies.

Registration/Licensing/Accreditation: Recordkeeping/Reports: Discrimination: Special Education: Health: The Department of Health and Environmental Control has the authority to inspect private school lunchrooms and sanitary facilities. 1982 Op. Atty. Gen., No. 82-10, p. 12. Safety: Transportation: Home Schooling: Parents or guardians may teach their children at home if the instruction is approved by the district board of trustees in the district in which the child resides. Home school programs that meet the following standards will be approved:
  • The parent holds at least a high school diploma or the equivalent GED certificate and attains a passing score on the basic skills examination or has earned a baccalaureate degree; The instructional day is at least four and one-half hours, excluding lunch and recesses, and the instructional year is at least 180 days; The curriculum includes, but is not limited to, the basic instructional areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies and, in grades 7 through 12, composition and literature; As evidence that a student is receiving regular instruction, the parent shall maintain the following records for inspection upon reasonable notice by a representative of the school district: a plan book, diary, or other written record indicating subjects taught and activities in which the parent and student engage; a portfolio of samples of the student’s work; and a record of evaluations of the student’s academic progress;
